Capone Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Are 38mm carbs too big for this setup: Passion 12 Port +4 (Purchased) Cool Head, 19cc domes (vp 112) -on its way- CPI Inframes & out of frames -soon to buy- +4 advance or +7 advance on timing -on its way- lightened flywheel -purchased- boysen carbon fiber reeds, stock cages -purchased - K&N pod filters -purchased- I can get a hell of a deal on them, but I didn't know if they'd be too big. Thanks in advance. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 does the +4 mean you have a four mill. stroker???? maybe,im not sure-38's are preaty big-maybe loco will ring in and set ya straight Quote
odaen Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 38's are probably bigger than you'd want to run. Wes ran 34PJ's with his setup, and it spit out some impressive numbers. Quote
sheefreak Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 I would call and ask Jim if I were you, but probably a little big. 35's would be ideal! Quote
ellison445 Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Thats way to big, you would be better off with 33 orm 34mm Quote
lowriderb Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 thats what ive been running on my 4mm stock cylinder, and 4mm cub.. on alcohol for both motors.. and will be boring them out to 40mm's soon too.. it ran great with the stock cylinders, and runs great with the cubs.. Quote
sheefreak Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Alcohol is a whole nother story when it comes to carb size. Quote
lowriderb Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Alcohol is a whole nother story when it comes to carb size. 492035[/snapback] would you care to elaborate on this? a freind of mine has these same carbs on gas in his 350 and it runs fine with them as well.. which are now converted to alcohol and still runs great.. the bigger carbs seem to help out a good bit with the bigger higher flow motors, and from all that ive seen the cubs like to have bigger carbs on them so thats why i am going to be boring them out to 40mm's.. banshee332 Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I dont think they are to big, I used 40mm lectrons on my 350 drag bike. I think you will be ok with the 38's on your passion port motor. jim he sure does know how to make them run. Quote
Malott 1 Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 If your running alcohol 38's would be fine. On gas that might be another story. Hard to over carburate on alcohol but pretty easy on gas. Kind of hard to explain someone else might be able to word it better but if you have a small carb you have more velocity moving in due to the small entrance. Larger carb you have volume but not the velocity. Now this is all on the start on the big end is another story. The cubs are desigend to handle big carbs but the stock cylinders aren't quite up to par with the cubs. Just my .02 Quote
blueshee03 Posted March 26, 2006 Report Posted March 26, 2006 i'd deffinately talk to jim but i think anything bigger than 35's on that setup running gas is an overkill .as odaen said wes had 34's and they seemed to work great. Quote
