fun_on_the_sand Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 I am planing to go from 350 to 370 using wiseco postons (+2mm) Therefore the engine may require biger carbs, but I dont want to go too bir (38mm) so I was thinking about 32 - 35mm. The next thing is, what brand? should I stay with Mikuni? i still have tons of jets, or should I go to Keihin? The usage of this banshee is primarily dunning and racing on oldsmobile hill. Quote

fastbanshee4u Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 You dont need bigger carbs yet.A blaster has a bigger piston yet and yamaha still uses 26mm carbs on it. Quote

Justintoxicated Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 (edited) Is it going to be ported as well? I'm guessing 35 air strykers if so, but best to ask your builder... Edited March 18, 2006 by Justintoxicated Quote

fun_on_the_sand Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 What if a go to 380 and mid range porting? You guys think the stock carbs still do the job? Quote
Justintoxicated Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 No... I thought you were going to a stroker? Why are you boring the cylinders? Quote
creamsickle Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 ok so if you have a stock stroke engine with mild port and run too big of carbs you will lose some low end power. I ran 33pwks on my drag port bored .40 over it ran great didnt have a problem. kidna came on like a light switch though. now im at a 421 cub and I bumped the carbs up to 35s. personaly I like the pwks they are a great carb and have never had a problem. stay away from the lectrons. for what you have you do not need them and they are a bitch to tune in, very touchy. but great for alky. and airstrykers are more for a mx bike. if you are dune riding I would definatly stay away from them.pwk or pj carbs or even mikuni are personal preferance. it really all depends on where you want to go with the engine. big bore stroked then get something like 33s to 35s. if you are going with small bore dune port then you can get your stock carbs punched out to 28mm and it will work great. I have some 33pwks for sale if you want them Quote

80overShee Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Sounds to me like this is a car engine guy thats just coming into quads. You don't bore over unless you have to. Your typical car guy will overbore, say a SBC 350, to gain a few ponies but it really doesn't do a real noticeable difference in a 2-stroke 350 CC engine. Your power lies in your stroke and your port timing. To over bore on a 2-stroke more than you need to is like a cat with nine lives shooting himself 7 times just for the hell of it. So to answer your carb question. You are fine with stock carbs because you shouldn't be boring +2mm in a single shot. Unless someone dumped a pocket full of BB's in your intake while it was running, that might be a reason. My shee is a 370, stock carbs, they aren't the best out there but they are decent. If I had to go bigger I'd go with no larger than 30mm's myself but I am looking for some 28pwks. If you look hard enough, you can find better carbs that were stock on other bikes to fit the Banshee. Just FYI, a 79-83 (think thats the right year) YZ-250 used a carb boot that fits the Shee and will hold a 28mm Keihin. Quote
Capone Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 I thought lectrons were a strictly alky carb? Quote
