Steering clamp hits the tank, and the holes dont match the frame mounts.

seems like it would be easier to drill holes in the frame than to bend the mounts of the tank.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have a Janssen +1+1 stem, with Tag 2's. And its the clamp thats hitting. If i move the tank back a bit, the clamp clears it, but then the alignment problem with the bolt holes gets worse.

Second, I got this bad boy for some desert races this year. But I have 2 XC races before those Desert races.

how comfy is this thing? I mean, will it be in the way for my XC races. It seems as if it will be big and in the way.

Third, I was getting about 60 miles outta my stock tank, with this 5.6 tank, how many miles will I get outta it?

I just talked to IMS. First thing dude asked me is if Ive rolled it at all. Im like ...uhhhh ya.

He said that with alot of shees that steering stem member gets bent slightly toward the rider. and that bending it out some, will get the results Im looking for.

makes sense. should fit if I do. hope i dont break the gussets there doin some bendin.

This may sound crazy but I cut a thick peice of alumium and drilled 2 holes in it and stuck it in between the frame and the bars to kinda push them out just a little . It helped mine a little . Just thought that might be usfull ? I aslo only used the 2 mounting spots back at the seat to hold it down and I never had a problem with it comming loose or whatever...

I wonder if that aluminum chunk changes your steering at all?

Looking at it, if I bend the member forward the tank moves forward, which fixes the bolt alignment problem. and it seems like the aluminum chunk will fix the problem with the clamp hitting.

Why am I having to change shit to get it to fit. I dont see any bends or cracks. I guess it could be bent...I have rolled her a few times...on seperate occasions.

anyone else use these tanks have any install problems? I wanna ride with it this weekend. i just dont want to start doin shit till i feel right about it.

whatcha think?

And the winner is.....

The aluminum chunk totally worked. Well I used two thin strips of metel....but all in all...works awesome. Stayed up late last night making the metal mounts...but they work killer. gonna go home tonight and bolt her on. Cant wait to see how shee handles...or should I say how I handle her.

thanks for the info.

By the way....like I said above....IMS said to bend the SS member. I tried that....but its wayyyyy hard to bend....without fukin up your gussets. I didnt have any luck with that.

So then I called Janssen Motorsports. they are killer. anyway, they just reinforced what crazywheelerman said. In fact they said that adding the metal in there might be better, cuz I have bent it. So by adding the metal...or aluminum in crazy's case, just moved the SS back to its stock location. funny eh.

Sapposedly the stock gas tank should go in and out without a problem. well...mine is wayyy tight.

hope this helps the next guy.

When you roll a shee that steering mast almost 100% of the time will bend somewhat. That is good places to gusset if you ever do a frame freshen. I would stick to the shim deal until your ready to bend that steering section straight and have it gusset at same time because when ever metal bends it losses strength, but thats another tread :D

I have a custom stem, (+3) and it hit the tank. I also have an attachment thsat moves the bars forward 2". I heated up the tank, and re-formed the top section so that the steering would clear. It worked. And I also did the boiling water trick to get a few extra tenths of fuel into it..... FYI, boiling water trick is pouring boiling water in the tank. Fill it up. I mean boiling hot, right off the stove. And then pressurize the tank with a little air.... It expands the tank, and then just let it cool, and presto, you have a little extra capacity.... :whoa:

I rolled on mine about 4 months ago, taking my gas tank out was a bitch...putting it back in was impossible. I compared my frame with my friends and i found where mine bent. It was only about 2 inches where the stem clamp was. So i got a blow torch and heated up that spot till it was glowing red, hit it with a 8" sledge hammer and it straitened out perfectly. I did it to both sides and the tank went it perfect and the plastics were perfect once again.

I've got a trail tech big bar mount with the keyhole and the bar mount hit the upper part of the tank. I dont know if your talking about in the same spot, but I took a piece of metal and drilled 2 holes in it and put it behind where my steering stem mount went to bring my bars forward a little bit till it just cleared.

Sounds like you guys are talking about the same thing though.

yup..exactly. Im glad to see this is what's common tho. I had to put two pieces in mine. Only God knows how many times Ive wrecked her...and me.

but it works great.

Now if I can only get my new +2's aligned. Life would be good.

I have the IMS tank, the fit with the bars is bad. I went to tag T2 bars and it did not help had to go to a roll stem to get it to work right. on the wifes shee it fits pretty good with stock bars and clamps with the IMS tank, I do have to move it around some to get all the holes lined up. reserve on this tank is around 1 gallon of fuel.
