ATV Riders Help needed

Hello All,

I know I do not post here very often but I need the help of my fellow ATVers. Oklahoma is trying to pass a bill that would make it illegal for any person under the age of 12 to operate a ATV. Please take the time to voice your concerns. Here are the details..

 

Oklahoma Bill 1830......

 

 

Please write, email, and phone your local Senator and

Senator Bernest Cain in objection to senate bill 1830,

which states in section 1 paragraph B that

 

Any parent, legal guardian or person having actual

responsibility for a child under twelve (12)years of

age, who knows or should have known the child is

operating or riding as a passenger on an all-terrain

vehicle, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon

conviction, be subject to the penalties as provided in

subsection A of this section.

 

Also contact friends, family, associates, and anyone

that may affected by this bill.

CONTENT OF FORM LETTER:

 

Senate Bill 1830 would make it illegal for anyone

under that age of 12 to operate an ATV.

 

This bill will deny my family the right to participate

in our preferred family recreation. Families should

be free to decide what to do in their spare time and

parents must have discretion over the type of

recreation in which their children participate.

 

I believe that rider education is the best approach to

the long-term reduction of ATV-related injuries and

fatalities. Rider education promotes the use of

safety equipment, safe riding and improves rider

skill.

 

I am concerned about ATV safety, but the safety of

motorized recreation can be enhanced without making

the participation of young persons a crime.

 

I respectfully request that you oppose SB 1830.

 

Please include personal contact info (eg: name,

address, phone, email) when sending to your Senators.

That's funny! Even CA isn't that strict. You guys get Machine guns, our kids get to ride quads.

North Carolina has allready done that, no one under 8 on an atv, 8-11 can only ride like a 70cc, 12-15 can only ride like a 90cc. No passengers on atv's, helmets and eye protection required by law. This only applies to 3&4 wheelers not dirtbikes.

Thats total bull shit. I live in oklahoma and I got my banshee when I was 13 and ive only wrecked twice (only had 3 atv wrecks total and no broken bones ) . A couple of dumb kids got hurt on them, and their parents are trying to ban atv's to protect other children. They think they are doing a good thing but their just fucking up other people's fun.

And the sad part is its becoming somewhat fashionable to blame the offending object, whether its an atv, a tv show, or internet porn as the source of a problem, rather than a parent taking the time and showing the responsibility that is, and should be, required of a parent. What could be easier than to let the government raise your kid?

 

If a parent doesn't buy an atv, a kid under 12 can't ride it. Pretty fucking simple if you ask me. If a parent buys it, the kids should be supervised. I can see if the kid is stopped, is under 12, riding an atv with absolutely no adult supervision because the parent is using the atv as a baby sitter, issuing a warning or citation, but if you're out with your kids/nieces/nephews having a good time its a completely different thing.

 

Everyday I see more and more why people move to Montana and start a militia.

Its too cold there for me though. Maybe New Mexico or something.

Hi all:

 

A couple of things:

 

1. The bill starts off with something I strongly agree with - kids (teenagers) need to wear helmets when riding. When you are an adult you can decide to wear one or not - that's a whole other debate I don't want to get into right now.

 

2. This bill will end sales of small ATVs in Oklahoma dealerships. It doesn't prevent you from getting one elsewhere.

 

3. How will this be enforced? Kids 12 and under cannot obtain drivers licenses so it is on the honor system. That never works. "Yes, officer he is small for his age" will become popular in Oklahoma. This bill does not earmark any state funding for state identification cards. If it does, kill the funding and you've castrated this bill.

 

4. The United States Supreme Court says you have to provide identification when an officer demands it. Whether you have to provide identification for your child when an officer is about to arrest you remains to be seen (and again we go back to the budget thing - is the state going to fund ID cards for every kid in Oklahoma?).

 

5. Because this bill will impact ATV selection at Oklahoma dealerships buy your kid a bigger one. Their definition of ATV in this bill is very specific. For example, your 5-year old and his friend could ride a 660cc Yamaha Rhino all day long... because you don't straddle the seat. This bill is giving parents that option which indirectly will injure more kids than it helps.

 

Note to #5: Someone is bound to say, "Parents are not going to put there kids on something that will injure them." To this I say, "No $hit Sherlock. Now get rid of this stupid bill."

 

6. Vote Senator Cane out of office. That sends a pretty clear message.

I also agree with what Joe said. The bill does fault the parents and restore a sense - however small it is a start - of personal responsibiity in America. The alternative would be a bill paving the way for parents to sue ATV manufacturers when their children get hurt.

BULLSHIT!! wtf is with some people? don't these people realize yet that the only thing this kind of shit does is piss off and hurt the people who have enough sense to actually handle things with common sense and responsibility, and does nothing to the stupid shitheads who do the things that cause the problems to begin with. guess what, the stupid shitheads causing the problems are still gonna be stupid irresponsible shitheads regardless of what law is passed. it's like the anti-gunners saying that banning guns will solve all the problems. guess what dickweed, no matter what law you pass, the people who use guns for criminal purpose don't give a shit about your laws to begin with, and won't really give a flyin f*ck cuz they are CRIMINALS and survive by working around the laws, not under them. the only ones who suffer, or 'obey', these kind of laws are the people who are decent, sensible people to begin with that wouldn't be doing things that would create a problem anyway.
