UNITED_BANSHEE_10 Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Hey, i wanted to know how does Porting works and how much will it cots. I have 26 mm carbs.. Should i do anything with it? Quote
Shee-Male Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 I'm useually the last one to say it but do a search! Quote
banshee tuner Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 Porting works great but even better with larger carbs. It will cost anywhere from 250-500 for a good port job. Quote
snowprophet1 Posted January 13, 2006 Report Posted January 13, 2006 "Porting" is when you change the highth, width, or shape of any of the cylinder's openings inside. This will change the characteristics of how your motor runs. If done wrong, it can be slower, but done correctly can gain more power down low, more mid, or more top end. Usually on banshees, people don't worry about trying for more power on the low end. You can still make a lot of power w/your stock carbs. You can port it and leave your stock carbs on, then later when you have more $, you can get bigger carbs if you want. You will notice a geat increase w/porting even w/stock size carbs. I'd do the porting first, carbs later. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Very well put...snowprophet... HOwever, United, you DO at least have aftermarket Pipes and silencers for that, right? Pipes and opening up the airbox, followed by jetting, are the absolute first mods for a banshee... Stock carbs believe it or not, can go a long way.... Quote
UNITED_BANSHEE_10 Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 Next month im looking forward to Porting, and installing V-force 3 and some pistons. They told me that if i purchased those i must change my stock Clutch. is it true ? and if i wanna change the carbs wat mm do i get? Thanks guys Quote
dajogejr Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 You could answer the first question...you do have aftermarket pipes, right? depends on what kind of riding you do...on the carbs. A good aggresive port and pipes that rev will reward a larger carb setup, say 34 to 39mm. However...that's good for dunes, drag racing...or other high speed, high RPM riding. If you just plan on boming around with buddies, trail....light racing, some dunes, etc., sotck carbs bored to 28mm, or up to 32 or 34mm will suit you. It's really two questions. Where you ride, how you ride. You don't build a top end only motor for trails, but you don't build a low end trail motor for wide open dunes and drag racing... With good pipes, reeds, fresh top end and porting a stronger clutch is a great idea. It's my honest opinion that clutch springs mean more than the plates themselves... Do a search on here for clutches... The one I have from Jeff @ FAST is great, about the same price as a standard aftermarket clutch... Quote

UNITED_BANSHEE_10 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Report Posted January 15, 2006 I will be doing some light races, and hanging out with friends and racing them, and couple of sand dunes. and i got after market pipes, so can you suggest me? thanks Quote
Wallrat Posted January 15, 2006 Report Posted January 15, 2006 Probably some type of dune port by the sounds of it. It'll give you gains bottom, middle, and top, but the emphasis will be on mid and top. What kind of pipes are you running? Quote
