gatoman28 Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Hello there, I have problems when I go riding in the sand dunes that my banshee overheats. I want to change the coolant and I believe it will work but should I also change the impellor to a billet one??? Will it help any??? only mod are the toomey t6 pipes 280 main jet original pilot jet replaceed air box with 2 kn filters any help please Quote
Wallrat Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 What elevation are you at? Or where are these dunes if you don't know the elevation? Sounds like your lean, which is gonna make you run hot. Also what's your temperature? With your mods you shouldn't be overheating unless its over 90 degrees and your putting around, or your radiator is completely trashed and has no fins left. Oh and ya a billet impeller helps. But better to fix the cause than the symptom. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 I agree sounds lean, that's probably why your overheating. get your jetting right first then look at the cooling system. Quote
blueshee03 Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 (edited) check your jetting, with the 2 k&n's you are flowing more air so you just may need to richen it up a bit.also i would say run engine ice.engine ice is great when it comes to cooling the engine.we put it in one of our drag bikes to try it and it ran 30 degrees cooler just by switching to engine ice.i have also heard of a few guys installing a high flo impeller and it actually caused they're bike to overheat because it must of circulated the coolant to fast. RmOntheWeb Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 how would u kno if ur overheating, i cant tell... how unless u have a temp gauge? its off topic i guess.. but it would help me understand more. Quote
gatoman28 Posted January 7, 2006 Author Report Posted January 7, 2006 i know i'm over heating because coolant spills out and i loss power i ride at glamis, sea level and alittle below Quote
Akita888 Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 Where does the coolant spill out of? You might want to make sure that the coolant not leaking into the cylinder at the head. If your overflow cap blows out when you rev it up there is a good chance you have a leak. Quote
Long Rod Todd Posted January 7, 2006 Report Posted January 7, 2006 I had the same setup when I first bought my bike from the dealer I ran 320 mains and never overheated.(sea-level) I think your lean. Quote
gatoman28 Posted January 8, 2006 Author Report Posted January 8, 2006 I found the leak to be from a little rubber or plastic hose, if u sit on the bike it's on the right sidebetwwen the radiator and cilinder, i seen it like tied to the frame i will make the mods to the jets plus change the coolant Quote
