Methanol?

I just realized I can get 5 gal buckets of the stuff for really really cheap since they use it on the drilling rigs to keep stuff from freezing up. Anyone tried to run a banshee on it? I might have ot go buy a crappy banshee and try to convert it to run on methanol. hahahah

Banshee's run awesome on it, but it will take some time to tune it in. Pretty much uses twice as much fuel to go the same distance, so long distance riding is out with Methanol.

Its made to go 1/4 and 1/8 miles at a time.Also you blow shit up REALLY EASY on methanol. Yea its nice if your just hauling ass for like 15 seconds or less.

Basically methanol is the same thing as alcohol. When your using the methanol from the rigs you need to filter it before putting it into your quad. Other than that it's good to go.

 

You need to make sure your machine is ready for it to. You need to drain your tank, lines, and carbs after riding each day unless you have the propper fuel lines, gaskets, ect that are alch/meth safe. It will eat anything up that is standerd rubber if left in contact with it for extended times. Once all is drained it's best to purge your system with gas for a rinse.

 

With a 2-smoke I am not sure if you need to run a top lube in addition to the 2-stroke oil mix or not. Probably wouldnt be too hard to figure out. Also you have to guard Methanol like a hawk. Meaning it is a complete magnet for moisture so you need to make sure it is completely sealed from the elements while it is stored. Thats another reason to drain it out. It will draw in moisture from the breather hoses and stuff.

 

The big power gains come from burning twice the amount of fuel. It is also high octane so it works awesome on higher compressions.

 

It wont do you much if any good to mix Meth with gas. The gas your running probably already has a small amount of methanol in it as it is. Methanol will offer zero gains to use it like NOS. Not the same thing at all. Methanol/Alch is also a major pain in the ass to try and get it to run with NOS as well.

just stick to gas, you cannot mix alky and gas, alcohol is very touchy to temp and humidity, it attracts water, so water means rust.what you can get from work for cheap may get expensive fast.factor in a top end when tuning alcohol.carbs need to be converted and you will need a handfull of drilled main jets.THINK ABOUT IT.
