smokincycles Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 i want to advance my timing a smidge,,,how far do i go ,,will it hurt my engine,,,will i pick up hp on top or bottom or both Quote
biggun6ss Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 I advanced mine +4. My banshee runs fine. I didn,t feel a difference though in power. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 If the bike is unported, +4 should be pretty good, about the standard. I did notice a difference in the seat of the pants comparison. Rode a friends bike with the exact (I mean exactly) the same mods, with the exception of timing advance on mine. Obviously not going to be like the difference from stock to pipes, but you should feel a difference, primarily on bottom, but throughout also. I could notice a difference in the exhaust tone, and throttle response. Good mod, should not notice ill effects. Quote
BdBanshee Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Advance it +4 or +5 degrees. You should pick up about 2 free HP. Quote
Banshee~ Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 No, it will not hurt your engine if you run the correct octane. With the advance you might have to run a mix of race gas depending on the compression your putting out. Quote
Wallrat Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I noticed a decent gain in power when I did mine. At the time I only had pipes and filter. Front end comes up a little easier. Quote
sycoracer911 Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 what about when you a ported jug.. how much should you advance it Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I have heard, but don't know from experience...yet, of guys running 5-8 degrees of advance on drag ported bikes. 8 seems on the spookier side to me, but again I can't speak from experience. Quote
