biggun6ss Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 To do a correct plug chop, where abouts do I chop my plug. Is there a certain distance from the top. Never done this before so I have no clue Quote
ssanddemon Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Put the plug in a bench vise, electrode facing up. Then hacksaw the plug open, cutting parallel to the ceramic insutator, all the way to the bottom of the plug threads. Then make another hacksaw cut along the threads at the base of your first cut to remove the piece. What you are doing here is cutting an access port in the plug in order to view the insulator all the way down to the base. Quote
biggun6ss Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 So cut a window from the top of the threads all the way to the bottom of the threads? It doesn't look like the ceramic part goes down as far as the threads do, I may be wrong though. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 In my opinion you can check the plug using a real good light and some sort of magnification. I have a workbench mounted light and magnifying glass combination that I use for other things but you can see down inside the plug easy enough. Otherwise cut a section of the thread from top to bottom. In reality you don't necessarily need to cut it that far, but it is going to be junk anyway so it doesn't really matter. Quote

2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 chop a spark plug and run it chopped? wtf you guys are talkin mcguiver shit ... 433065[/snapback] wtf are you talking about... I just reread everyone's posts and I don't see anyone saying you should chop it and run it chopped. I know I am definitely not that stupid, or cheap, and I can't imagine anyone else... although I have read about some pretty ghetto shit that I would never do (even from some on here) Quote
biggun6ss Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 Well, chopped it up and it has a tan line all the way around the plug. It is a little lighter than what I think it needs to be so I will go one size bigger on the main and check again. I just ended up cutting all the threads off so I could see the entire ceramic part. Thanks for the help Quote
Ducman Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Benbb jetting FAQ Click on the above link. It has a good "how to" on banshee plug chops with a pic. You want a fairly dark 2mm band. Sometimes if you don't go WOT long enough the band will show up looking too light. But if you went WOT long enough and the band is lighter in color and less than 2mm then jet up like you are doing.
