chris642 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 hey, i am thinking of making a little ramp to play with my rm 250 on. i found these, they are really for a quarter pipe for skateboarding, but it looks like a great design for a small launch ramp. it is about 4 feet tall, and 8 feet long. it would be made out of wood, metal isnt an option as i can not weld and wont be qualified to the point i would trust myself doing this for a while. im not going to be hitting it in no 4th gear or anything, so i dont think it wont have to be to heavy duty. anyway, here are the plans, does anyone know about how much it would cost to construct?? i havnt bought wood in a while so i cant really say. http://www.heckler.com/ramps/rampdet7.html Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 deff do it dude. i just wrecked my old ramp so im gonna build one of these Quote
MudSlinger09 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 looks pretty good , but for a few dollars ill break in to a moto x event and just steal you some of them metal ones Quote
PyRo_ZaCh Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 not going for the "custom free hand" style? . . . I can't remember who drew those up off hand but you all should remember them . .. Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I'd add some vertical support to that ramp, looks like nothing supporting the ramp but nailing or screwing the ends of the supports too some plywood. I'd run something up the center too or else the boards will deflect something fierce and eventually it'd fall apart. You could cut several sheets of plywood to that slope and then recess the 2x4's into the plywood for support Maybe 4-5 sheets equally spaced across the ramp. My .02 Quote
Gargamel Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 beef it up a bit That ramp was designed for skateboards not 400 lb atvs other then that just make the transition smooth Quote
dalegoldston Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 I agree keep the lift off flat do not add the bow on the middle. Unless you are going for a back flip. Quote
super88_banshee Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 (edited) Yeah, i'd keep it flat Edited October 31, 2005 by super88_banshee Quote

Gotta have that to give you that little extra height, it's hard to get a steeper angle on the ramp without the arc otherwise it's like hitting a wall. Quote

chris642 Posted October 31, 2005 Author Report Posted October 31, 2005 sounds good, the only thing that may keep me from making it is the price. i have to check out for sure, but i think a 3/4 inch 4x8 sheet of plywood would be like $25 each, i need 2 at least. i need a ass load of studs, and at least a 3x8 sheet of plywood for the top of the ramp, another $25. then i would need to make a landing ramp out of dirt or someething since a 4 foot launch ramp will definally get you at least 6 feet up and i aint flat landing that shit. and it needs to be angled like that, any ramp that is worth anything is. with the angle i want, going up it will be like hitting a brick wall!! racer Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 if you want the arc, but dont know your trig and materials very well id do a 3-stage design. not rounded, but not flat. it wont be like hitting a wall, but it wont be as smooth either, so its a good trade off. i cant draw it right now, but i think you get the idea. I'll see if I can come up with a kicker design. Quote
