hey guys i have a 04 gsx-r600 motor and a rolling 89 banshee with no motor? im very good fab work but never tried anything like this before. how doable would this swap be? or should i sell them both and buy somthing else.

i go to sand mountain and am a veteran rider and i want to go fast, very fast.

if you could point me to a website that would be a great help too.

sell that banshee frame and buy a craptor...youll save yourself a lot of headache..banshee frame is way too short for that motor and you would end up cutting most of that frame up...here are a few pictures of my cbr600rr conversion bike..also, i wouldnt count on going out there and whoopin on modded banshees. my bike runs good but 4mm bikes is about all itll hang with..however, i never got beat by any 4 strokes i raced at LS...

I've had to fab my own frame, which is really fun to do, but I had to invest quite a bit just to get to the point of bending.

 

If you happen to not do a project and end up selling your engine, lemme know. Always looking for another one.

no offense to the 600, its a powerful bike, but you may want to go with something a little more powerful to make it worth it...

true...i went with a 600 because mine is mainly for dirt hillclimbs..good grippy dirt tire choices are limited..but in sand the possiblities are endless...get a big ass motor and use some huge ass tires...

thanks for the info and pics (just wanted to make me do it more), i have also talked with a buddy that did the same kind of swap in a quadzila. he seems to think i wont have that much problem makin the switch, ill find out.

600 is enough for me for now. also unmoded it might accually run a whole weekend up there. thanks again

DO IT! I just finished an 87 frame with a CBR 600F3 engine. It really isnt THAT much work. If you cut the frame just above where the seat mounts on the tab and extend it upward about 6" (or whatever you see fit) then extend about 9" in the center....you can figure it out. Its really not as hard as it looks. Just take your time and plan TWICE.....can't say that enough.

Here's the one I have been playing with for a little while...an 89 LT650. Looks a lot nicer with all the plastic set on, but I'm too lazy.

sanddemon, ill guarantee that your frame is twisted now..before you cut those frame rails you should have set up some sort of jig to holdthe front end and rear end in place...its a good chance now that the frame is not going to be straight...why dont you go ahead and finish it up and post some videos??

I'll be posting some pics soon and a video I have compiled. We JUST finished it and took it to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes for a sand test run. We didn't have the appropriate paddles (21" geckos) but OH MY GOD it is fast. This quad was built just for experience and we will be building 2 more this winter. We are considering selling this one once it is completely finished. It still needs gauges, an air shifter, paddles, plastics (or a substitute diamond plated aluminum) and an aftermarket extended swingarm. We extended the stocker and expect to shave off nearly 30 lbs with a good chromoly arm.

 

Even with the small paddles that NEVER hooked up, I estimate it was running mid 4's in the 300' drags on somewhat heavy sand. A good set of paddles (25-27" mini-buggy paddles) will easily put it in the very low 4's, high 3's are more than possible and I am fully expecting that. Out of the hole it pulled just about the same as a mildly modified Banshee. I ran mine and another against it and both pulled out of the hole right with it until about mid 3rd gear (2nd launch) then the rocket was gone. Once we can get a good hook under it, it will take off like a bullet.

Yep, I know what you are talking about, but it still needs the frame-to-engine connector fabbed up and installed. The engine is going to be a stressed member of the frame, and until this piece is welded in, the bike is like a piece of rubber- real flexible. I do have a plan to get everthing straight and lined up before this piece is finished, as it will be the main factor in keeping the bike tied together and sturdy. I am held up right now waiting for some repairs to my wirefeeder, but will post pics of the finished product when it is done.
