87TwoStrokeShee Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 I was playin around dragin some of my friends today and im lookin for a little more top end speed out of my 87. i can launch off the line in 2nd no problem. But i go to start off in 3rd it falls on its face. Right now I got a 14/42 set up in it. I bought it with a 12/42 and i was poundin guys out of the hole. But i want more top end and i was wondering if i went to a 15 front will it hurt me that bad of the line?? My mods are.....TR-6's, V-Force 2, Toomey 2:1 Intake with K&N Filter and outerwear, Dyno Stage 3 Jet kit with 340 mains, bored .20 over, and the heads been milled. Could i bump to a 15/40 or a 15/41 gearing with out losing my launch? Quote
98bonerSTOCKshee Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 1 tooth up front = about 3 teeth in the back the opposite direction... moving up to a 15 would give you lots more on top, you might be able to launch in 1st gear prob. not 2nd anymore... Front spockets are cheaper so toying around with 3 different size ain't that bad money wise, your make large gear changes though.. change the rear to fine tune it.. Quote
D.W. Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Back in the day when my bike was basically stock with some bolt on's (similar to your set up) I ran a 15/41. I also had a +4 swingarm at the time. Quote
lonestar Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 (edited) Go to 15/40 you'll like it. Not that much shifting as fast like the stock 14/41. You can ride the gears out longer. Your top end will gaine. You will lose a very little on your low end. But you gaine less wheel spin. Thats what you want. Edited September 27, 2005 by lonestar Quote
locogato11283 Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 on loose dirt id say yes..on anything with traction or pavement id say no...ur stock length right?? Quote
