Handyman Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 I know you people are probably getting tired of me and all my banshee probs but I ned some assistance. Wehn I'm at high RPMS in 3rd-6th gear it spits and backfires on me. I can't tell if it's backfiring or just spitting. It runs just fine in 1st- lower RPM's in 3rd but once the RPM's get close to red line is where the prob starts. I have a 290 main and I'm thinking of putting the 340's that I have in. Would this be a good idea or should I change the needle clip postion?? I also have another problem that I thnk is related. When I came back from the ride I was dumping fuel out of my over flow tubes from one of my carbs. I couldn't tell wheich carb it was coming from because I turned the fuel off since I was in my lawn. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Fireman-hott Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 overflow from your carbs means your float got stuck, tap it a few times usually unsticks it. Popping and backfiring could be lean. Try pulling your choke out and go into the high rpms see if it stops and reacts better. If so you are lean and need to up that puppy. Pilots/mains. As I think the choke adds fuel to the pilot. Quote
trex banshee Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 this sounds similar too the problems my brother was experiencing at high rpms it turned out to be the bottom stator bolt came out and got into the flywheel and the pickup coil causing the pickuo coil bracket to bend so we used a feeler gauge to reset the air gap .018 between the flywheel and coil and the backfiring was fixed. FIRST BANSHEE Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 If it was running fine with the 290 mains and the problem started during a ride I would first check the spark plugs. Quote

I even tried the old ones. I just tried the choke method that was mentioned in an earlier post and that didn't work. I have now basically got it narrowed down to something electrical. Quote
