dirtyjoe Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I recently moved to South Georgia (200 ' above sea level) from Utah (4200' asl) wich is a great fall in elevation. I am lost with my jets and dont know if I should go up or down. Here is the scoop, in utah shee ran like a champ with T5s, Dual KN filters no box, V force reeds, WB boost bottle, pilot stock at 25, needles stock at middle clip, 270 mains. Now I have went back to stock airbox and filter due to the mud and water in GA, I have ported and polished the cylinders and replaced the pistons due to a shattered skirt. Now shee smokes like a freight train I need some guidance. I am premixing yamalube R2 semi synthetic at 40:1. What should I do, change mains ,pilots or needle size or what. Any help is greatly appreciated. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 What is the bike doing right now with those jets in it (other than smoking)? Hesitating, sputtering, backfiring? When you put the stock airbox back on, what kind of filter are you running and are you running with the lid on or off? If you're running the stock air filter I can imagine you're probably starving for air...A good setup to run with the airbox is a K&N pro-flow kit and cut 1.5 inches off the back of the airbox lid. By doing that, you get a good amount more air and still protect your filter from mud/water splashing on it...that is if you don't bury your bike in the mud/water. Your jetting sounds close to what it should be, I just think that the stock air setup isn't allowing enough air for your bike to breathe, especially with having pipes and reeds. Let us know what she's doing and we'll get you where ya need to be Oh yeah, welcome to the HQ!! Quote
sheefreak Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Look at your plugs and see if they are sopping wet. Going down in elevation requires higher jetting, but going back to stock airbox and foam filter might require you to go down 1 or 2 sizes from where you are now. The difference in airflow from dual K+N's to stock setup is tremendous. I second the K+n and proflow adapter, but you can get it dialed in if you want to leave it the way it is. Quote
Banshee~ Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 What kind of port job was done? Get a Airbox Adaptor Plate and filter. Your jetting should be around a 350 main, and 27.5 pilots with the lid off. Quote
dirtyjoe Posted July 28, 2005 Author Report Posted July 28, 2005 I appreciate the help fellas...when I got hear before I went back to the stock airbox and fitler i had the KNs it still smoked... I think I will try the 27.5 pilot with about 340 mains. It starts on the first kick it idles fine but the more gas I give it it starts to bog kinda and smokes more I have been studying what other people are saying about being nearly at sea level and they are in the 340 ballpark on mains. As far as th port job goes its mostly polished with a little bit of porting my father inlaw is a machinist and he said he took a little off when he did it. so what do you think 340s or what.... does any on ride at sea level or close to it...lst night i was messing with it making sure it wasnt something simple that I had looked over when adjusting the idle on the left side it got stiff then i felt it snap..the freaking plastic muduleTORS thing inside broke.. so I ordered the elimination kit from TOOMEY. If it aint one thing its another. Thanks agaian Quote

Thats the wrong way ain't it? the hotter it gets and the more humidity you got the less gas you need.or/and..the more air intake you require. so by adding that lid and the increase in heat and humidity you should be running rich. my .02 Edited July 28, 2005 by quad4me Quote

Like whats been said, the stock airfilter sucks ass. Get THIS airbox adaptor and filter. Quote
