papa_smurf49319 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Ok i figure its something with the jetting but i figure i mines well run it buy you guys, on a cold day around (80) my bike will run all day long and run perfect, but on a hot day (90 plus) my bike will run good for about 15 minutes and then it will not neccesairly run bad but just sound different and more raspier peer say, plugs are golden brown tan, brand new stator, fully rebuilt motor stock specs bored 30 over with wiseco pistons, and vitos stock replacment crank. i know it shouldnt be overheating i got a whole bottle of water wetter in the radiator, oh by the way i think it has size 200 jets in it whatever stock is. cant remeber if its 200 or 210. but im lost and dont wanna ride it when its hot because i got 750$ in my motor and dont want nothing goin wrong. Any help is appreciated. Quote
Dark Ranger Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 You may be running rich in the warmer weather. I'd do a plug chop and see how it looks. Mine would do that too. Run good in the morning when the weather was cooler, but as the temp goes up the performance goes down. Leaned it out a bit and the problem is gone. Quote

race-a-holic Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Do you use the air lid or have modified it any? Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 13, 2005 Author Report Posted July 13, 2005 i know how a carb works, thats not the problem ive torn many carbs apart. the snorkel is removed and the tunnel the air travels down through the top of the lid is cut open, it has a proflow clamp on system Quote
Wheatchex Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 At what throttle opening does it run poorly? It sounds like you may need to be richer because of the mods to the air box, although the temperatures you are riding at dictate smaller jets. It all depends on the throttle opening as to which jet you need to adjust. Need more info please. Wheatchex Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 13, 2005 Author Report Posted July 13, 2005 i mostly ride wide open all the time, but it happens no matter what the throttle position is, and it idles just a tad ruff, like you wouldnt notice if i didnt tell you and you didnt concentrate on it. Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 After About 15 minutes of riding today it started doin it again, im startin to think it has less to do with the temp outside because it was about 80 maybe 85 not blistering hot. Please help, i dont wanna have to sell this damn thing. It rides perfect, fast, snappy, and screams at you until it starts to act up. I figure if its jetting wouldnt it start right after the bike warms up, or maybe constant? Quote
Big Blue Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 sounds like it may be getting to hot/lean, 200 seems small for jetting? Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 how much you guys pay for jets round your part, they wanted 6 bucks a piece for mains at the stealership in town, thats outrageous! Oh by the way what size should i jump to. The plugs never look white they are always black burnt, oh perfectly tan Quote
Dark Ranger Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Dude, I still think it sounds like you're running rich. Dark plugs and it runs good until it warms up? When I buy jets I get them in a five pack for about $22 through Dennis Kirk. Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 What size would you guys suggest, and the reason im weary of richin it up is i foulded a plug last week, is there any other possibilities? Quote
Dark Ranger Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Have you removed one of the jets to verify the size yet? I know you say you think it's a 200 or 210, but I personally never trust my own memory for something like that. I'd be staring at the number on the jet as I typed it on the screen. Anyway, without knowing for sure there's no way any of us could give you advise that would be worth a crap. No offense fellow HQer's. Also, it wouldn't hurt to check the float height as well before doing anything drastic. Quote
papa_smurf49319 Posted July 15, 2005 Author Report Posted July 15, 2005 i know its stock size but what is stock size 200 or 210 Quote
Dark Ranger Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 According to the manual the main jets size on 1990 and newer is 200. Now, the next question is: are you the original owner? If not, I wouldn't trust that the jets are still the originals. If you are the original owner, I would check the float height. How long has it been doing this? Quote
