quadfever54 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 just done the top end and replace stator with ricky stator. problem is now it won't idle right, keeps cutting out and oiling up the plugs. Ran like a champ before stator went out. Question: had a modified stator plate which looked advanced at least 4 degress, can timing cause the plugs to foul at low rpms???? I started at +4 and then went to 0 and also put fresh fuel and clean filters. please any help, I am jamming to get ready for vacation. Quote
sredish Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 sure your jetting is on? you just rebuilt it, may have to "retune"... Quote
quadfever54 Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 I wouldnt thind the main jet would have any effect at low rpm and idle, maybe I need to change idle jet??? Quote

The main does nothing for your idle. Depending on where the "low rpm" is and where your throttle is at, the needle may need something to, but I'd start with the pilot and see what happens. Quote
quadfever54 Posted June 28, 2005 Author Report Posted June 28, 2005 still having problems. left side seems to cut in and out then foul out completely, both plugs are black oily looking. I think I havent been able to burn all the oil out from the crankcase. I run it with out the outerwares hoping to lean it out but no luck. Im going to try a hotter pllug tomorrow. Spark is strong, k&ns are clean, fresh gas what else???? Quote

The Outerwears isn't going to do anything as far as running it lean or rich. Now, have you messed with your pilot / jetting any? You could probably use to get a couple sets of plugs, but for pete's sake, get the ones that your supposed to be running; BR8ES plugs. Quote
fixitrod Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 (edited) Did you take care of your flywheel when it was off. You don't want to bump or drop a flywheel or it will mess with the magnets resulting in less power at low rpms. Is the pickup really close to the flywheel. I don't know the spec but I make mine as close as I can get it. Maybe you have a week coil to go along with it. If it ran fine before, the weather hasn't dramatically changed and you haven't messed with anything else, it could still be electrical. Okay, just realized you did a top end too. Are the carbs synced, carb slides in correctly.. cutaway in slide facing airbox, choke tube in place between the carbs, float bowl with brass choke tube in it on the left carb. disconnect the tors too, the little black box under the left side of the fuel tank. Make sure the throttle cable is not binding or pulled where it splits under the tank. Jetting could be a little different since you, in theory, should be pulling in more fuel and air with the rebuild. Edited June 28, 2005 by fixitrod Quote
quadfever54 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 I called my mechanic today and he said do not use anything hotter then 8's which is what I use. It seems to have plenty of spark, tried a .060 gap to see if it still jumps it , and works fine. I did have a little damage to one of the magnets when I forgot to gap the pick up coil on a practice old stator. I hope it is not effecting it. It is set at .015 which is within specs. I have keihin pwks so slides are in right and no tors, sync is fine there is some tension on the throatle cable because of the boost bottle, they seem to work fine though. Have not messed with the jetting because ran like a champ before topend went out. The oil in crankcase I was referring to is caused when you cloke too much before the engine first started. I had problems before taking it in for boring and the mechanic sucked it all out. He said it is hard to burn out unless the engine is full temp and you use lots of thoatle, which I havent been able to do because of break in period. I am ready to take it up to 3/4 and above next ride. I will try more fresh plugs and hope for success. I am also wondering if there may be some blockage in exhaust causing problems!!! anymore help appreciated , thanks for replies Ray Quote
crbanshee Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 i have heard a few guys talking about same problem..new stator and now bike wont run right...i have heard ricky stator has a big problem with the stators working right? personaly im going with the white bros. 265 watt stator..its more light out put and its cheaper than a 200 from ricky stator Quote
