decon Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 what do you guys think is a better alternative, milling the stock head .30 or getting a noss head? Quote
Banshee~ Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 what do you guys think is a better alternative, milling the stock head .30 or getting a noss head? 386024 noss head will cool better and you can change the domes. Quote
decon Posted June 26, 2005 Author Report Posted June 26, 2005 im not worried about changing domes, but the cooling. couldnt you just run some fins in the radiator line and engine ice with the stock head be at an ok temperature. just saying as a cheaper alternative for a $260 aftermarket head. Quote

The inline coolers and engine ice wont cool half as good as the cool head will. Quote
strokrbanshee1 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Go with Noss, it is worth the extra money...... Quote
decon Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 noss head will cool better and you can change the domes. 386027 like I said, I wouldnt want to change domes. i dont think increasing the amount of coolant in the head would do anything because after 5-10 minutes of running it will be up in temps no matter what. unless someone has done a test to see if aftermarket heads cool the temps more than a stock head I dont think the extra dough is worth it. dlnoss Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 The reason it cools better involves more than the coolant capacity of the head. The flow characteristics are also improved. We did run some tests doing sand drags at Little Sahara in Oklahoma. They ran 55 degrees cooler than the stock head. Your results could be a little different because of jetting but they definitely run cooler than stock heads and many other brands of aftermarket heads. I'm not trying to talk you out of milling your head, just answering some questions. -David Quote
Banshee17Racing Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 It sounds like that guy ^ knows what hes talkin' about . I'd personally go with the Noss head, unless you're REALLY trying to pinch some pennies. I'm more than happy with mine . Quote
decon Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 thanks for that reply dlnoss, just wanted to hear from the man himself. Quote
BdBanshee Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 I run a milled head on mine, no overheating in 17 years. If you have the $$ the aftermarket heads are nice, otherwise a milled head works almost as good if you don't plan on changing domes. Quote
chris642 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 cool heads are awesome, not only do they perform great, but they just give your engine a really trick look. I get the most compliments on the head than anything else, but it is like the simpliest thing i have done. hell, it was much harder to put my graphics on than that head Quote
