For something really easy yet noticeable try mixing your premix alittle leaner

like 50:1 or maybe even 100:1 amsoil with alittle higher octane fuel, I was amazed when I went from 32:1 yamalube, to 50:1 amsoil.

just a thought

I think there was a guy on here awhile back that said he got some templates from racelogic.com for 50 dollars. It was on one of the posts about porting.

The post on the racelogic templates are in the repair and mod section on page 5. Hope this helps.

Hot MX port, Noss head and 18 cc domes and a pair of CPI's or Shearers and that 450 owner will be embaressed to be alive. Were talking spanking of a lifetime....Jim

will he still be able to use 93 octane or will he have to go to race gas

chances are with 18cc domes, he'll need to use race gas, depends on his elevation to be 100% sure.

Why not try racing each other while driving the other persons quad. This way you can determine if its the quad or the driver. Different people drag different IE: if you use the clutch while upshifting you will lose against somebody who doesn't use the clutch. Try that out and see if that is the difference.

There's the racelogic porting templates. He puts auctions for the templates up from time to time for various engines. Might be able to email him to have him to put one up for you to buy at that price. They are like $30-40 more from www.racelogic.com Personally I have not tried the templates, I am currently looking for a set of jugs to experiment on (.050-.070)

Rejetting is not necessary when advancing the timing, it has no effect on air/fuel ratio going into the motor, just when the spark occurs.

Scott,

I hear what you're saying about air/ fuel ratio going into the motor.

I assumed that the point of advancing the timing is to allow a longer burn time for the mixture and to therefore increase performance.

The instructions that came with my DynaFS suggested that rejetting "may" be required "to supply more fuel to maximize performance gains". ... "The stock curve is least likely to require any sort of jetting adjustment. Using the other curves may result in a lean misfire condition at high RPMs when the jetting is not properly set".

Does this back up my 'assumption', or do you have other theories? <_<

 WORD! same goes for any aftermarket CDI or Ignition coil I believe

Well, as most around here know, there is no "definite" with anything. Every mod, IMO, requires, not necessarily jetting, but plug checks. Hell, I check plugs like once a month at least, whether I add mods or not. So, what I should've said is, rejetting shouldn't be necessary, but you should check your plugs to be sure. If your jetted a little lean, there's a definite possibility of a detonation, especially with more advanced timing.

What I find is, some mods don't really affect your air/fuel, however, they'll accentuate an already borderline situation sometimes. Someone may not realize they're on the lean side, but then will throw on a timing plate and it starts to overheat a little, or maybe a little detonation.

I don't know if that makes sense either but I agree with checking your jetting after ANY mod. Although I didn't have to rejet when I threw on my Dyna, I sure as hell checked my plugs to be sure.

I agree with you about mods accentuating borderline situations, but still believe that advanced timing burns more mixture. ... However, there's more to overcoming this than just jetting up. (As this only richens up the same amount of mixture).

Very difficult to put down on here, but I guess you know what I mean.

I jetted up 3 sizes to cover the advance of the dyna (I was a little lean anyway), but have only put a few hours on the ignition at the stock curve (no advance). So it's not surprising I've been showing a little on the rich side just now. (No problems tho' - perhaps a slight bog just below the powerband, but I've moved to a 15 tooth front sprocket from a 14 so it's a bit of both there). ... Tomorrow I hope to get a few hours on the advanced curves and see how Shee goes and keep a good eye on the plugs.

cut the swing arm 2 inches and put a 15t front sprocket in with some new tires. all that power isnt worth anything if you are spining. Id work on traction before more power
