northshoremb Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 I am wondering if somebody can go and check there coil on there bike so I know if mine is ok? Unplug the sparkplug caps and the 2 leads (black, orange) from the coil. Now use a OHM meter and test for resistance in these 3 ways. From the black prong to the Orange ( which I have a reading ), from plug cap to the other plug cap ( which I have a reading ), also from the black lead prong on the coil to either plug cap ( which I don't have a reading and thing this may be the cause). I have no spark at all today and yesterday only had a weak spark every 4-5 kicks. Quote
Dead Op Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 Is your TORS completly off? It has to be fully removed, or you will have problems like this. Quote
northshoremb Posted June 18, 2005 Author Report Posted June 18, 2005 Yes its fully removed. Just need someone to check the resistance as i stated. Quote
98bonerSTOCKshee Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 take your wires out.... you gotta rip them out of the coil, I was getting same readings as you, once I pulled the wires out I checked the wires themselves and then also the coil, found out that the wires were bad... 4 days of hair pulling... I just got new plug wires and siliconed the crap out of them to hold them in place.... Quote
northshoremb Posted June 19, 2005 Author Report Posted June 19, 2005 (edited) Thanx, I'll go try that out. I put new NGK plug wires and still no resistance from the wire to the connecting prong. I even tried it without plug wires and tested it from the prong that goes to the plug wire and also the main lead on the back of the coil and got no resistance. Out of a 1000 Banshee owner out there somebody has to know if I should be getting a reading or not.???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 80overShee Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 if you actually tried both sides of the coil when the plug wires were removed and still no reading get a new coil..... 383292[/snapback] The test procedure and exact readings are in teh Clymers manual. I don't have it in front of me or I would post it on here. If I remember later I will post the exact tolerances for resistance on the coil. Quote
northshoremb Posted June 19, 2005 Author Report Posted June 19, 2005 I do have the clymer manual and thats where I tried the test. That is correct that I had the wires off and tested from the wire side of the coil to the negative side of the coil prong. So I thought it was the coil. Since the dealerships don't have any coils in stock and I don't know anyone with a Banshee I wanna know if it is possible to use say a coil off a twin cylinder snowmachine just to see if I get any spark before I order the correct one. Any coil should atleast give some spark, right?????????????? Quote
racer Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 yep any coil should give spark. try one off of pretty mcu anything. however, getting it to run wiould be another trick. Quote

Not saying it won't be junk, but I just bought one cuz of the same problem for $8 and it works fine. Quote
