Banshee_LE Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Just ordered a set of Wiseco piston for my Banshee, what do you guys think of them? Quote
wayfst Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 2 late now, isn't it. for high performance stuff they are the best, but if your banshee is just piped i wouldn't use them. they r very noisy and don't last as long as cast pistons. Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 ... they r very noisy and don't last as long as cast pistons. 378480[/snapback] Is this true? What's the reasoning behind these points? ... Just curious. Rare. Quote
Master of Faster Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 I'd like to hear this too, no piston should be noisy if the cylinder is properly bored for the piston. And as far as forged pistons not lasting as long as cast, definitely like to hear your explanation on that too, I'd have to call BS on that. Only downside to forged pistons that I'm aware of is that they expand further during the warmup process and are more prone to being cold stuck if not properly warmed up I always run wiescos and I think most others here do too. race-a-holic Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Good pistons.I don't think you'll be disappointed. Quote
Nightrider Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 IMO... A forged piston will outlast a cast one.(Debateable) A forged piston is alot noiser than a cast one. Forged pistons need more operating clearance than cast.Usually .0035-.004 You can run cast with .002-.0025 clearance and no more than .003. Forged pistons will rattle a bit until the engine reachs full operating temp. Forged pistons are much more dense than cast, which require more heat soak for proper expansion. Thats the ultimate question..Forged or cast? I run both types in my shees.Application varies.IMO cast are best for bolt on mods(pipes, reeds, timing, airbox) I reserve forged for ported or raised compression engines, otherwise there overkill. Longevity?Thats probably a draw.I've had cast piston 2 strokes that lasted as long as forged ones.It all depends who rode the machine and how they took care of it. My only gripe with forged pistons is the added wear the bores recieve.Forged pistons are alot harder on bores.I usually get 2 top-ends on cast bores and there within specs. With forged I'm always right over the specs and probably should rebore. bansheefreestyler Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 what do you guys think of namura? I think thats what im gonna buy for my shee Quote
Nightrider Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 I run Namura PP in my 01' there a rip off of Vitos PP except the domes are not as thick. They are alot lighter than Vitos,a good replacement for a "bolt on" engine.I would not recommend them on anything else. They don't look like they can handle it.
