In the last year I've gone through 4 coils. Two while running t5's+two now running pt's.I flipped the coil over to the top of the mount+shimmed it away even farther, but they still keep failing, like hitting the kill switch.I assume it overheats+fails. Then it will have to sit for 5 or 10 min before it will start again. I'm wondering if my problem might be voltage regulater related or something else. This is with a dyna fs box but also was an issue with the stock cdi box too. Any input or sugestions to this prob greatly appreciated.

under what riding conditions does this happen? and you say itll work again after 5 or 10 mins? that seems odd. so the coil itself does not really fail, just quits working momentarily? i would say that the problem is not the coil itself but something else.

It only happens after the bike is up to temp. The last couple of times i was on the throttle hard+allmost went over the bars.It runs great no warning then all of a sudden it's just like you hit the kill switch. Then it won't start for nothing untill it cools a little.

man I have an 87 banshee with t5's and I'm still on stock coil and cdi box. I have never heard of a coil or just about any electrical part just die out and work again 5-10 min later, especially if your going through that many. Makes me think coil isn't the problem. I had a similar problem with my snowmobile once, the gas cap was wrong one(no vent on it) and the vent hose was pinched in frame. It would run good for few minutes then just die , not like kill switch, it was like it ran out of gas(which it was untill i would unscrew cap).

you ever check to see if your stator wires are loose or anything? i had a similar problem one time and it ended up being the stator wires were fucked. might at least check into it...but i def agree the coil is not the main problem here. something is making it get too hot or something...

At first i thought it was vapor locking, but i have clear fuel lines+i can see that their is fuel in the bowls when it happens. It was acting up today,i rode for about 10 min after a good warm up then it did it.But it started right back up that time. Then after about 1 1/2 hours of hard ridding it started doing it again but would'nt start without sitting for a while. When it runs it's in a optimum state of tune+runs perfect.

if the insulation is chiped off of your stator coils it will do that. when the stator gets hot and is not insulated it will ground its self out. and she will die and not start until after it cooled off in about 5 to 10 min.
