thanks for the good news guys... I figured I'd get a good story about someone doing there top end in the silver lake parking lot or something..LOL ok I'm off to do the toughest part of this task..moving enough of my wife's shit in the garage to find a space big enough to fit the banshee in....then dig the snowmobile trailer out of the snow bank and try to get the banshee into the garage. man I'm tired already....

I have done topends on both of my banshee's but both times i had the motors pulled out. This time I don't need to rebuild the crank, so I was wondering if there is enough room to do the top end without pulling motor out?? Any tips or suggestions ? I'll be tackling this project this weekend so I can be ready for silver lake the next weekend. thks for any help BC

here is a couple of links...http://www.silverlakesanddunes.net/links.html ....http://www.hideawaycampground.com/ Silver lake is always a blast...the best thing about silver lake is it is always changing. One day there is big razorback hills (great for jumping) then the next day all the hills are different. During the week it is usually fairly empty so the riding is better, but the weekends also bring out some nice rides and some crazy people to watch. hey ironhead there are some really cool guys around michigan that would probably meet up with ya and let ya borrow some legal silencers or some sparky's maybe even some paddle tires too. just post when your going I'm sure somebody will help ya out...maybe even me...although i just picked up tickets to nascar bristol night race for that august weekend:) but I may make it down while your there. good luck BC

Silver Lake this weekend? Last weekend open...
Bc34c replied to dajogejr's topic in Riding and Events Forum
hi guys, i was there this past saturday, and couple weeks ago. here is few pics of me jumping few weeks ago. Hope to meet some of you guys down there next summer. http://groups.msn.com/BC34csGroup/shoebox.msnw -
hopefully easy question. will a rear sprocket spider from 89 and newer fit on an 87 axle? I'm guessing it will fit and be the same width and have same spline. It seems easier to find sprockets and chain deals for the 89 and newer banshees.

what's the best pistons to run? I have an 87 banshee, .20 over/toomey t5 pipes/non ported/crank was rebuilt trued and welded too. I have been running wiseco's with no problems just curious what everybody else is using now days. I rebuilt this back in 99 but it doesn't get alot of use, maybe 5-8 times a year. I have been using klotz oil also(just for the smell) thanks for input cya

hi guys, just got back from silver lake, this weekend should be awesome. I went wed-thurs, it rained overnight wed so thursday was hard and fast but by evening the strong winds had dried and smoothed it out a ton. If you like jumping the wind made some great razorbacks. the dragstrip was kinda divided with a small hill in between, the 1st strip(closest to exit) was dry but real choppy and rough. the 2nd strip was lil wet with some pudles on left side but you could run from middle over to boudaries on right side and it was real smooth. Was supprised to only see 2 other banshees on wed, and 3 on thursday??? come on guys I can't spank all the 4 strokers out there by myself, lol. cya

top end kits comes with everything needed?
Bc34c replied to DMAN94's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
i have had 2 wiseco prolites kits for the banshee and 2 for my arctic cat snowmobile and they all came with gaskets too. they came with cometic gaskets in mine and i think the banshee kit was around 140-150 too. what company did ya get them from? -
i just did mine couple days ago. i used a washer and a metal rod(that fit over the shaft) to tap it in easy and even. although i was wondering what would happen if i started tapping and it went crooked or screwed up the seal? but it went in straight and easy. the seal i got was from a ball bearing and seal company on my route(ups driver) the outside of the seal appeared to be metal but when i questioned them on it, they said it was a gummy coating that would mush and provide a better seal????anyone ever hear of this b4? It seems to be working and it went in nice and snug. good luck. I got that seal and the seal under the clutch push lever for $2.90 what a steal.
-
ok thanks guys I'm leaving it in. I also wanted to post the sizes of the seals. the shift shaft seal is 12x22x6 mm and the seal under the clutch push lever is 17x28x6mm. I got mine from local bearing and seal company(applied industries) they would've been about 11 bucks at dealer i got 'em for $2.90 with my ups discount lol.

ok just went and looked at it again. it definetly only comes out through the top. the hole it sits in tapers way down after the bearings, even if the case was split it would be hard to get a good angle on it to drive it out. i just put the push lever back in and it spins fine so i guess i'll start putting it back together tomorrow. That is a part that i will be changing next time i have to split cases for sure, even if it's still in ok shape. well thanks for replies i got to get this thing ready for it's 1st trip to silver lake sand dunes this year..
-
looks like it should come out top. i haven't had the cases split(this is a good thing)in a few yrs. so I dont remember what that looked like from inside. from top of case it looks like it should come right out lol. not the case. I think I'm just gonna leave it in since it's still working. I've just been trying to replace some of the odd stuff that i haven't got to in awhile. I think if i try messing with it too much i'll end up breaking it or dropping parts in tranny and I have too many kids and not enough time for that now.
-
ok last call on getttin needle bearings out. new seal will be here tomorrow and if i cant get them out without bustin them up then they are staying in. they have all the needles in and they spin ok was just hoping to change them so i have one less worry in future. anyone had these out recently???
-
ok i got the shift shaft seal off and should be able to get the new one back on right over the shaft . Still wondering how to get the needle bearings out, doesn't look that bad but i know it has never been changed . Do they make a tool to pull those bearings out or what?
-
I'm in process of tearing down the banshee and changing the seals on clutch lever and shift shaft. Ok 1st of all the needle bearings under the clutch push lever dont look too good. Shouldn't they just slide out?, I'm not sure how hard a should be trying to pull on them. I dont want to pry too hard and break the bearings and drop them down into tranny. Is there a trick to it? also on the shift shaft seal can i tear the old one out and slide the new one on with out pulling the whole shaft out? That would save takin the basket off and pullin the shaft out, but i guess it's not a big deal. let me know if there's any shortcuts , thanks

if the ex rim is the same as the 250 r(which i think they are) i have done it on 2 sets. I dont remember if the hole needs to go towards the center or away from the center but basically the hole just needs to be about 1/4 bolt size bigger. my friend did it at a machine shop he works at. It also needed a lil notch on inside of center for the lil tab that sticks out on banshee hub. I did the 2 nd set my self with a drill although i wouldnt recomend it on a good set of rims. these were a set of old paddles i found a a garage sale for 20 bucks.

tx for the info spurdy. I got it half torn apart last night, hopefully get rest of it tonight. Guess while i have it apart I can paint the pipes, change the reeds, rejet carbs, replace fuel lines and filter....damn these 2 seals are take longer then I figured lol oh well kids have soccer so wont be riding next weekend anyways. Or maybe I'll just call in sick and get it all done in one day....hhhhmmmmm
-
thanks spurdy, I'll pick up that seal at work today. I still need the one for the clutch but I need to get it torn down so i can take mine in when i get it out. How often do you go through the seal for the shift shaft? i have only replaced that one once so far(had this 87 for about 12 yrs) and haven't had to replace the clutch one yet. I'm getting old so it don't get riddin' like it used too. lol
-
ok someone gave me 10 x 22 x 7 as the shift shaft seal ??? haven't had any for clutch seal yet?
-
man I have an 87 banshee with t5's and I'm still on stock coil and cdi box. I have never heard of a coil or just about any electrical part just die out and work again 5-10 min later, especially if your going through that many. Makes me think coil isn't the problem. I had a similar problem with my snowmobile once, the gas cap was wrong one(no vent on it) and the vent hose was pinched in frame. It would run good for few minutes then just die , not like kill switch, it was like it ran out of gas(which it was untill i would unscrew cap).
-
anyone know the sizes of the oils seals for the clutch lever and the shift shaft. local dealer wont have em for week or so. I deliver(ups driver) to a bearing and seal company on my route that can give me a good deal , just need the sizes. I dont have them out yet and cant read the sides of the seals in the banshee now. thanks for any help

did you get the arrows(from the push lever and the case)lined up right, and also get the ball bearing back in too? Where ya going riding this weekend? silver lake?
