04TeamYamahaShee Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 I've searched through, and I think I might have found the answer to my problem but I'd like to be sure. I bought my new 2004 'Shee about two weeks ago, less than 10 hours on it. Last night as I was going over it when I was done riding, I see that my coolant tank under the seat is almost empty. So I fill it up with coolant. As I was getting done riding tonight, I see steam coming off my right header pipe. Well, there's some coolant on the pipe and the front a-arms. The coolant tank wasn't noticeably lower tonight after I filled it yesterday. I'm wondering if this is a big problem, and how to fix it? I read about relocating the tank, would this fix it? Thanks. 04TeamYamahaShee Posted May 26, 2005 Author Report Posted May 26, 2005 So where is it coming from, is there some kind of overflow hose? Did I over fill the tank? Quote
quad4me Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 only other reason it would spit is if it were running too hot. So then we would need to know all intake, engine and exhaust mods and exact jetting, your location weather and altitude, and riding style. Then someone will ask if you did a plug chop, and how that looked. BOTTOM LINE = NORMAL. relocating bottle will help, but I think most people here will tell you if that is all you are noticing and it is not GUSHING out then it's just fine. Just watch it and see how and when it is doing it...does it do it no matter how fast you go......or only when goin slow......or is it a drip, or splooge. good luck Quote
04TeamYamahaShee Posted May 26, 2005 Author Report Posted May 26, 2005 Alright, thanks. I'll keep an eye on it. For the record, it's 100% stock. Quote

Banshee_LE Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 Switch to engine ice and buy a pro design water impeller, it worked for me! Quote
03bansheeLE Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 i had the exact same problem with my stock banshee, it leaks out of the overflow tube that comes off the top of the overflow tank and the line runs right out by the pipes abd drips on them. This happens because there is not enough of a raise and then drop in the line to keep the coolant in the bottle when the bike is bouncing around or when you pull wheelies. If you relocate the bottle behind the front bumper right under the 'hood' of the banshee then run the line up over the gas tank and then down in between the carbs and in between the tranny and swingarm where your fuel overflow tubes run out then the problem should be solved. I did this whole process and it fixed my problem. You will have to take both coolant lines running to the coolant overflow bottle completely off the bike and re-rout them. I had to cut quite a bit off the one that runs from the rad because there is less distance for it to travel. You can just use tie wraps to hold the bottle on too, i got this process from a forum a while ago but i forget what it was called but it works perfect, no problems since. really hope this helps, Darren Quote

04TeamYamahaShee Posted May 29, 2005 Author Report Posted May 29, 2005 I'll remount the tank and pick up some engine ice as soon as I get around to it. I see my tank under the seat is almost empty again, is this because almost all of it has dripped out again? Quote
03bansheeLE Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 yes this would probably be from it leaking out the tube. the best way to find out if your head gastket is leaking is take the rad cap off when the bike is cold and rev the motor up, some coolant may spit out from vibration but as long as it is not spraying out then you are fine. AnthonyG213 Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 The reason you lose coolant is because the coolant gravity feeds out of the resevoir into the overflow and spills. Its very annyoing and adds up. Its not because its hot. Ive checked it out before when u go screaming up a hill or jump it will drip. I had the same problem when my bike was stock. Move the resevoir to the front and ull never have to refill ur collant. Heres a website explaing why it happens and a detailed description of how to fix it. Ive done it it works and its free. Need any more help just ask. http://kuoi.asui.uidaho.edu/~john/tips.html Quote
