......in good running order.

I mean that when i buy my shee, its already going to be in good running order, im gonna make sure of that. The riding will be just tooling around in fields, and trail riding on weekends during the summer. I only will be able to ride it 1-2 times per week, so not alot of riding.

What can i expect to pay (ball park) in a year for maintence? Just asking cuz it seems that shee's require frequent rebuilding, and alot of work? is that even true?

thanks

You might need a set of plugs, which are not expensive. Change the oil once or twice, keep the chain lubed and the air filters clean, and thats about it.

Figure in the cost of fuel and premix too.

If the bike is tuned right, and the cylinders/pistons/rings are in good condition, yearly maintenance will be very low. Banshee's dont REQUIRE alot of work, but if they are setup wrong, they can be a pain.

To put a $$ value........i'm not really sure. Compared to the cost of the bike and the mods, it is virtually nothing.

I would have to say you could keep it down to a minimum of practically nothing if you wanted to. I mean like changing the oil every once in a while, keeping the chain lubed, minor stuff. If thats all you want then I suggest you stay off this site cause your expense comes with the addiction of doing mods. :)

Someone please correct me if im wrong, but dont the rings and gaskets wear out twice as fast as pistons. If thats so than change your $160 to a 30$ rebuild every other time.

i'm like you and get out maybe 1-2 times a week, if i'm lucky, and ride mostly trails and farm areas. my average summer has been a few oil changes, a few plugs, a set of brakes on the rear, about every other year on the fronts, but the most costly seems to be axle bearings and some other linkage bushings or shock bearings about once a year. i've replaced my a-arm bushings once in 4 years, swing arm bushings last week after 4 years, new chain and sprockets once, (after 2 years, about due for a set again). anything else has just been minor mods that weren't really necessary, just wanted. i've put a total of about $2500 in repairs and mods combined into mine since i bought it new in the spring of '01. so yearly, my average would be about $625 per year. i keep it in good shape, but then again, i don't get to ride near as much as some others either. oh, and i haven't had a reason to tear my top end apart yet.

It is an expensive hobby.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar.

Get into Banshees, and you will soon part with your extra cash.

If you get a new/good cond. Banshee, you will spend all your dough on upgrades.

If you get one in crap cond., you will spend all your dough keeping her running.

The cheapest way for someone who has never owned a Banshee to get into the hobby is to buy a new 'shee and enjoy it stock and trouble free for a couple seasons.

Riding a new shee once a week for a year shouldn't cost more than $500 minus fuel.

Mine is moderately modded, and cost me $300 last season minus fuel to ride,

but I only ride from Oct-March strictly sand.

Heres a price list of what you'll need:

Chain lube-$15

Air filter oil/cleaner-$10

Grease gun grease-$20

Hose with running water-should be attached to your house

Gas-$20 (a tank)

Carb and choke cleaner (case)- $10 at your local wally world

(after almost every ride I spray my motor down with a can)

plugs-$6 (checker auto parts br8es)

Transmission oil Klotz (cahgne about every 5-6 rides to keep machine in good running condition)- $25

These are just the basic things that you need to keep your banshee running in good condition. It seems the cleaner you keep your banshee the longer it lasts. O just rebuilt mine after 7 yaers and there was only minimum piston slap...I think this is that yes i ride my shee harder than hell but I don't beat it theres a difference. Once I have ridden it I clean it up GOOD for the next ride.

depends on how hard you beat it......spent 1000 bucks gettin her ready to head for Hatfield-McCoy.....and I'll probably spend more than that afterward.

I went through 3 sets of front brake pads and 5 sets of rear brake pads in 10 days of riding, blew my top end (think waterpump took a shit), not droppin my ported top end on there without a good solid crank, redid the axle bearings half way through, blew out a ball joint on my a-arms (dont know how I found a vw bug tie rod end in the middle of bumblefuck WV), bent the shit out of my belly skidplate, all my bearings (including the new axle bearings) are loose, all my bushings are loose.....and I'm sure theres more as well

Yeah.....I beat my quad......every hour of riding is about 3 hours of work for me (when I'm down there at least)

Dam sounds like some of ya's beat the livi'n shit out of ur shees! ! !

I plan on just tool'n around, maybe a small junp here and there, nothing crazy. I cant afford to rape her, that will get too expensive, and then the wife will sodomize me with a broomstick if i spend too much :P

THANKS FOR THE INPUT HQ'ERS

It is all very worth the fun it will give you!

Ask yourself, "What do you work hard for?". Back when everyone was griping about fuel prices I noted that you have to enjoy life a little or it'll be gone before you know (Ferris Bueller; 1986).

For the teenagers on here, 1986 came a few years before 1990. ;)
