MILO Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 my chain was almost out of adjustment, and the sprockets are barely worn, and the chain doesn't seem to be stretched to bad, by play around the rear sprocket. so i figured, what the heck, i'll do the old trick of removing a link. tried to put it back together, and now it's too short not enough adjustment. i had an extra master link that i had bought once, and put it on to make up for it. now i have 2 masterlinks side by side. it's held up good so far, i have about 40 miles of hard riding on it. is it more at risk of letting loose, or will it be fine? i don't want to get a new chain just yet if i don't have too. thanks. sj820 Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 This is fucked youll like this! One time I was riding in the winter with a very old chain! This is when I was younger and had to rely on no income to support my riding habits! It was in the middle of winter and I had a very crappy chain, probably the original chain that came on my '92 Honda 250x! Anyways the chain somehow broke in four places at the same time! Yes 4 places! So being the cheap fucker that I am I happend to have two 520 master links lying around and went and purchased two more with some $ I borrowed from my old man! So yes I had four master links in different spots on my chain and had absolutely no problems!!!!! Now that I have a job I buy the cheap $20 vagina(Regina) or any other manufacturer that produces 520 link motorcycle chains that can be found anywhere! Just dont look at any ATV retail stores! As soon as you say that the chain is for an ATV they have to add $10 to the final price or try to sell you some o-ring/X-ring chain that is designed to be used on machines using Pratt and Whitneys on the back! HA HA! Funny Funny!..........Shit aint funny mutha f#cka!!! Quote
mat Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 I run a -2" swingarm in the dirt and a +3" swingarm in the sand. When I run the longer swingarm I simply add a 10" section of chain using two masterlinks. I haven't had a problem yet and don't see why having two masterlinks would cause a problem. Go for it. Quote
sredish Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 running two isn't a big deal, but I wouldn't run them back to back. I'd be sure to have at least 1/4 of the chain in between them. Just me. Quote
