SICK BOY Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 If your only doing a top end leave the motor right in the frame.Pull your tank off,and you'll have plenty of room to work, and no you don't have to drain your oil. Quote

You'll need to remove the carbs and intakes aswell. Also, when undoing the head nuts start at number 10 and work your way down to number 1 (each one is numbered), giving each one a 1/4 turn until the pressure is off the head. Rare. Quote

dajogejr Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 Take it to a quarter car wash if you don't have a pressure washer. Much easier and safer working on a squeaky clean motor...and less chance of dirt falling in and ruining a good idea! You shouldn't have to remove the rear fenders. just the fronts, gas tank, and plastic around the tank. Quote
SANDSTAR Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Clean the hell outta it before you start. leave the motor in there. Take the front plastics off and remove the fuel tank. Get a clymer's manual and make the piston holding fixture they show in the clymer's. It works real nice. Stuff clean shop rags around and in the openings above the crank to avoid dropping stuff into the crankcase(or you will be removing the engine). Change your oil ya cheap bastard. Quote
PolyKarbon Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Dont use a pressure washer to clean your bike. The high pressure can ruin seals, rip wires and hoses, and generally just muck up your bike. Quote
MDS2106 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 (edited) I guess I have been lucky, i have always stopped at the do it your self carwash, or used my pressure washer, blew off some stickers but thats about it Edited May 24, 2005 by MDS2106 Quote
