momo20 Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 i am rebuilding my engine on my 87 banshee.....only reason why due to a rod breaking....the stock bore and stroke on all banshees is gonna be 64x54 mm correct ????i am looking at the pistons kits out there and i am favoring Wiseco...i need to do some boreing on the jugs very little damage there...i dont know what size over i need to go though.... would a .040 be to much...and if i did that what size on the cool head domes would i have to go with Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Whoever you get to do your boring will tell you what size of piston to get. He'll have the jugs in his hand and know how much it's going to take to clean the bores. If you've a coolhead just now, then a bore won't mean you have to alter your domes. Rare. Quote
momo20 Posted May 11, 2005 Author Report Posted May 11, 2005 i need new domes cause ..the piston messed up my domes...so i need new ones..i dont know what size they are now....so that is why i am asking what size of domes would be best for the bike Quote

I assumed the dome capacity would have been stamped on the dome somewhere. If not you can use a syringe and measure it with a spark plug in place. I've heard that using 'rubbing alcohol' is more precise. There are a few variables that dictate what domes to use, such as altitude, fuel octane available, etc, etc. give dlnoss a pm and he will help you out and be able to supply the necessary domes if his will work with your cool head. Rare. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 if the cylinders dont have any deep scratches i wouldnt go any more than 20 over if that will clean them up. contact dlnoss here on the site and he can set you up with some domes. you dont need a different dome you just need to see what cc is stamped on the side of yours. 98bonerSTOCKshee Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 ProDesign heads have the cc's stamped on the edge of the dome, you have to have the dome removed in order to see it.. When you taking the jugs to the machine shop they can tell you what it will take to clean them up, go as small as possible. After they inspect the jugs you can then order the pistons, a good machinist will want to wait til he has the pistons in hand before starting the bore job... I beleive the same domes will work up til like 80 over after that you gotta get big bore domes... ( i think) Quote
