i have k&n pro flo w/ no lid, stock carbs, fmf ram valves, stock cylinders, fmf golds, and turbine core 2's. how much power do you usually get by advancing the timing, and are there any other advantages or disadvantages?

Maybe a couple hp at most just do it its not going to hurt, I wouldnt go over +4.And stay away from degree key and go with timing plate.If you need more info do a search this topic has already been discussed alot.Lots of info just type in timing

Timing is Just one part of many mods you need for a great running Shee.

 

1/4 horse here 2 horse there and after dozen mods and the combo is correct you biuld a real screamer.

So DON'T underestimate The smaller details.If you do You will lose .Muhehehehehe

Suppose to be 2.1 more HP at +4 degrees advance, it's noticable.

This mod is a MUST! Especially for only $35.00 for a Ricky Stator Timing Plate. Might as well have your flywheel lightened while you have it off too.

I tried nearly all the bolt-ons with little results.If you want to see a real change,save your money and get it ported.It will really wake your banshee up,even if you still use stock carbs.All the money you spend on bolt-ons,you could have got it ported.A lesson I learned the hard way.

Ports are the shit as of opening up the engine getting the most out of it. But for $35.00 why the hell not advance the timing!? Just like Oilsmoke said, its all of the smaller mods added up that build the real screamer.

 

It would be like saying, 'Well I have it ported now so I am just going to leave the factory exhaust because I have a port.' The way I look at it is- all of the smaller mods like- timing advance, reeds, exhaust, etc- is prep for porting. They all help in better performance in working with each other making the shee the ultimite screamer! Ok- I'll get off my soapbox now

Ditto...for around a 100 bucks or so...+4 and a lightened flywheel is a key, cheap mod that takes hardly any time and is very easy to do.

 

Sure...porting is great, but...you're going to have to send 'em out...etc.

 

Honestly...these change the bike and easily make it more rideable.

 

It's simply fantastic.

 

Contact Boonman...and get the shiftstar mod while you're at it. All the HP in the world isn't going to mean squat if you can't run 'er through the gears...

I agree. Get a ricky stator and advance it +4. It says it adds 2.1 hp but the hp number isnt the big factor. The timing that the cylinders fire is just so much better. The combustion is so much more noticeable, and you feel the power everywhere in the rpm band. I wonder how much torque increases?
