bansheefreestyler Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 hey guys. my axle has a lil bit of play in it and i think the nuts on the side of the sprocket arent tightened. would i be able to tighten those up and would that solve the problem? how tight do i tighten it? alright thanks later Quote
wayfst Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 if your axle slides in your carrier from side to side, then use a couple for cresents to tighten. i use locktite( the blue stuff) and stand on the wrenches. can't get them to tight. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 alright man. thanks. and hey how far are you away from british columbia canada? if your not that far would you be up for riding one day maybe? alright man. thanks. later Quote
bigboybanshee Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Also keep in mind that if you're nuts are tight and your axle still has play in it then your bearings are worn, which could very well be your problem. You might want to consider getting an axle lock nut. Quote
sheefreak Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 I second that, axle lock nut is way better, I can tighten all the play out of mine by hand, then just tighten your allen bolts to keep it in place and you are done. Quote
locogato11283 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 i have a locknut with the allen head screws and it comes loose all the fuggin time. i think i had better luck with the stock ones. Quote
sheefreak Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Ya know Loco, I may have to keep an eye on mine, I didn't notice it was loose untill I changed my sprocket. Maybe it loosened up right after I replaced my axle bearings . Quote

I'll bet if you could score a woman as big as Stephen's she could put the hercules grip on it and you'd never have to worry about it again. J/P man Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 so if my bearings are shot can i still race with it? are they hard to change and how long will it take. im racing on sunday and have no time to change bearings. Quote

You need to decide what's acceptable and what's not. Bear in mind that a scrutineer may pick up on it at the racing if it's too sloppy. ... They're not difficult to change if you've got decent tools. If they come out easily enough, then you're only talking about an hour or so. Have you tried tightening the axle nuts yet? ... I bet that takes most of the play out. Rare. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 no i havent tried that yet because i dont have a big enough wrench for it Quote

My locking axel nut comes loose all the time, and then the little metal rod that you are supposed to use that comes with it, bends everytime I try to tighten it down real tight. I just get an allen wrench and tightin the fook outta it, but usually lasts about 2 rides. Quote
RNBRAD Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 You guys might try the RPM banshee pro-loc system. I've never had it come loose. Quote
