Banshee wheelin' Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I have seen you guys talk alot about litening the flywheel. I was wondering how much difference it makes performance wise, how much does it cost and who can do it. Is there anyone here close in ohio.my bike has pipes and a k-n filter with no lid i just want to pick it up a little. Quote

Nightrider Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Great mod,add a lightweight set of pistons and theres definitely "seat of the pants"difference. Quote
Banshee wheelin' Posted April 28, 2005 Author Report Posted April 28, 2005 It sounds like it is a good idea now who can do it can the local machine shop do it or does it take a special knowledge. Quote

A local machine shop I doubt will know. Edited April 28, 2005 by John19 Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 i'd like to know also!!! im in the dfw texas area!!!! im about to take mine off for the timing advance and minus get that done Quote
sheefreak Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Are there any extreme disadvantages to this mod as in hard time keeping it at useable revs. Also, are you refering to weisco's as a light piston? Quote
Mr.Giggles Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 (edited) Any good machine shop can handle that job for you,the shop that did mine never did one before,I just stood there when he was doing it and told him when to stop. If you look at the flywheel there is dimpples on the outer face when he was done with mine you could just barely see them. Off hand I just forget the ounzes you can take off,if you use the search on here I'm sure you will find it. When he started to remove material from the flywheel the cutting tool was hitting and missing as the flywheel turned that's the reason for the dimpples drilled into the face from the factory to balance it!! By removing the material on the lathe I would think that the flywheel would be balanced better than from the factory,Mine seems to have less viberation after it was lightened. We weighed it before and after the job was done and if I recall now it was 9oz lighter . Like everyone said it's well worth the money!!! Take the head with you and shave 25 thou off it while your at it,they work well together. Edited April 28, 2005 by Mr.Giggles Quote

05bansh Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Its well worth it!! And since you will have the flywheel off you might as well throw on a RS timing plate and advace your timing. Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Do you need a special fly wheel puller to get the fly wheel off, or can you use something like a stearing wheel puller or gear puller? Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Do you need a special fly wheel puller to get the fly wheel off, or can you use something like a stearing wheel puller or gear puller? 362179[/snapback] The puller has to have reverse threads on it to work with your fly wheel, mine was only like $12.00 at the local dealer good luck Quote
05bansh Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Definitely get a flywheel puller! I paid 9.00 for mine. Also if you have an air wrench (compressor) it makes it even easier to pull it. Quote
