I've heard of people cutting gears on their banshees. What does that mean? What is the benefit/drawback of having your gears cut? Is this mod good for all types of riding or is it just for drag bikes? I've been to lots of sites, but never heard anyone explain the theory behind it.

Thanks

I have this mod done to my gears and am very happy with it. On the sides of the gears there are 6 dogs that engage into 3 dogs on another gear when shifting. 3 of these dogs are milled off so the gears have a much better chance of engaging and not bouncing off eachother and finding a false nuetral, expecially under full trhottle shifting. Not much of a drawback otherthan having to completely dissasemble the trasmission and find a machine shop to do it. This coupled with RZ shift forks and drum, and a shift shar mod makes for a extremely smooth transmission, comprable to a 250r!

I had mine cut too and then use the Rz drum and forks with a modded shift star.I'm still waiting on my swingarm to come,so i can't tell how much better it is,but i think i paid $175 or so to have it done, not really sure.

Cutting the gears will work good for power shifting.... The down side is more back-lash on throttle back off. This can put more shock on the transmission and drive train.

If you are drag racing, it could be a good mod, but if you are trail riding it will not so good on the drive train.

I cut a set for someone, and I remember it sucking very badly. I also remember that I did not charge nearly enough. It ended up costing me $$ to do it in the end. But oh well. If you find someone to do it, I would think $175 would be a fair price. There's alot of work involved. Although, with a CNC machine, it may not be too bad. The gears are just harder than a Bull's prick...
