ok I am trying to get my gear shifter off. In order to do that you have to take the foot peg off. but there are two bolts that hold it to the frame. I can not get then off. i tried for a half an hour. i had two other people try to. They will not budge. i soaked them in PB blaster. and still will not move. These are supposed to come off right?? anyone else have this much trouble. banghead

Yep, they are supposed to come out. Unless somebody tac welded them in place or something.  Nut up and bust them loose. Can you get an impact on them?

Oh i put so much force behind it that i think i busted a nut. lol i thought of a impact gun but cant get in there.

Tried the 'mexican impact wrench' yet? Use a big-ass hammer on the other end of a box end wrench. Works just like an impact. Tip the sucker on end to really get in there without having to stand on your head. Just make sure the wrench is a tight fitting 14mm or you will mess up the hex and be kinda screwed. Or you can heat things up with a torch to expand the area, thus alleviating some pressure- it'll burn the paint tho, so BEWARE.

those work better than an impact. with a hammer wrench (the proper term) and a sledge, i can lay down more torque than any 1" impact out there. but id steer away from it here. id say stick with a ratchet and a 14mm shallow socket. then use about a 4 foot section of cheater pipe. B)

I am just worried that the wench is gunna slip and round off the bolt.

thats why you need constant pressure instead of a redneck impact. just make sure your not using a chinese wrench ( :shootself: ).

leverage is the key. get yourself a big ass breaker bar with the regular 6 point socket, not a pos 12 point, and a pipe. i usually use the handle from my floor jack. it works great for things like this.

its a proven fact that a good 6 point socket has no more gripping force than a similarly made 12 point. in fact i prefer 12 point sockets.

I prefer to use impact sockets on everything :shrugani:

Be careful if you use the hammer wrench if you snap the bolts off you'll be kicking yourself even more.

I'd like to see that test. If the top of the bolts not perfect there is more metal to grip the bolt with a 6 point than a 12 point. There's just more room for error with a 6 point. I also do not like 12 point sockets ... if you can't tell.
