J-Madd Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 (edited) A buddy's Banshee's rear end wobbles excessively, beginning at about 50 mph. We've changed wheels/tires, and made sure the chain adjuster bolts are the same length (axle is not crooked). With the rear wheels off the ground, the shaking still occurs. The axle doesn't appear to be bent, and the bearings are great. What could be causing this?? A warped axle or hub would wobble at all speeds. It feel's exactly like driving a car with an unbalanced wheel. The wobble is so bad, it also shakes the front end. For a while we thought is was something in the front end, until we lifted it off the ground. The axle has +2 spacers, if that makes a difference; but this began a while after we installed them. Please, any advice would be appreciated. Edited February 11, 2005 by J-Madd Quote
squish Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 That happend to me but it was the slime I put in. It would all go to one side and act like a counter balance. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 Have you checked the hubs to see if they're straight? Not sure what else might cause your problem Quote
fromygod Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 are the hubs themselves tight. i had 1 loosen up once. the cotter pin stopped it though. Quote
ssanddemon Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Sand in the tire? It would take a lot but... I would try it again with the wheels off. That should narrow it down some. Quote
Holyman Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Some of the axle extenders use the wrong size bolts and they could easily become off center. Take the spacers off and try it without and see what happens. It's most likely the spacers. Quote
banshee boy 98 Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 did you check the swing arm bearing also?? just a thought. Quote
J-Madd Posted February 13, 2005 Author Report Posted February 13, 2005 That happend to me but it was the slime I put in. It would all go to one side and act like a counter balance. 321683[/snapback] We thought about that. He did put some slime in both tires. It's not as bad when you change wheels and tires, but still does it at 6th gear WOT with other tires. I think it could be a combination of the slime and the spacers being off center, as Holyman suggested. Can't see or feel a wobble with the wheels off and swingarm raised. Swingarm bearings are good, all parts see to be like new. Thanks Quote
