haha727 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 if the vin numbers are scratched off is there another way to identify it?thanks Quote
BenBB Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Did you find it??? I don't know for sure but I could swear I saw a CSI where they were able to read a serial number after it was ground off, heh yeah big help I know but thought I'd mention it. Quote
PyRo_ZaCh Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 i know this works for guns but not sure about cars and atv's, theres some kind of acid used by law enforcement that eats the metal away so the numbers come back but this only works if the numbers are stamped in. because the metal is denser where the numbers were pressed in. . .i'm not good at explaing things but u should get the idea. . . haha727 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 we are pretty confident we found it will let you know later today thanks Quote
bigboybanshee Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 That's good news!!! What kind of condition did you find it? Quote
Fireman-hott Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I believe there is something on the engine to identify it. As for the CSI stuff the number aren't stamped in on the frame at least not on my '03. they may have swapped the frame out too remember that. Quote
brock_fuzzy_69 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 i was figuring on stamping my social security number into a gusset or 2 that i will add after the powdercoat it will be covered up and nobody will know till the scratch the paint off and it can be placed in several almsot hidden spots as well to avoid the grinding of them off Quote
haha727 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 (edited) there are 2 different numbers on it the one on the frame and the one on the motor, cops are looking into it to make sure the numbers were not scrapped off and different numbers put on or even altered, or if the guy even lied about the numbers.is listed on ebay hopefully it is ours is a little damaged but can be fixed Edited December 30, 2004 by haha727 Quote
bansheefreak Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 that would be awesome if you get your banshee back... wish mine would show even if in a basket.. its mine i paid for it...even in boxes i could say is paid for...... Quote
BitchenBanshee Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 The number on the engine means nothing. It is just a number to identify assembly line info. The number on the frame is the one that identifies the bike! Quote
