I agree, these newer bikes are pretty sick and make the 5-10 year old ones look like dinosaurs. My gixxer was only a 750 and hit 85 in first and topped out at 186mph in 6th gear off the rev limiter. I could get more out of it if I regeared it..The gixxer 1000's were pulling 9:2's @ 146mph in the 1/4. That was 2 years ago, supposedly the zx12's are supposed to smoke the gixxer 1000's in the 1/4. Give them another couple of years and you'll see stock bikes running high 8's in the 1/4.... :whoa: There is no such thing as a slow bike anymore......

we sold a new R-1 yesterday. and before it leaves the dealer it has to be tested in the first three gears at both 3000 and 7000 RPM for a short duration. third at 7000 is 160 on the speedo. thats spankin fast to have some revsd and three gears left. :headbang:

Cole your saying you guys run these bikes up to 160mph? (I'm not buying my bike's at Maxey's anymore, :lol: Also it would have 3 gears left. 3rd gear at 7000 rpm shouldn't be no where near 160 though, redlined in 3rd would be closer to 160, of course that's close to 14k rpm too.

You're full of shit bro, or I'll just give you the benefit of doubt and say clueless.

3rd gear@7K will get you to about 86mph.

@13.75K 169mph (like RNBRAD stated)

My calculations my not be exact but are much closer than those than yours. ;)

damn it, now ill have to look into it more closely at work. maybe the test dude just said he hit 160 in third and i misunderstood it to be at 7000 rpm.

BTW brad, the guys do those runs on 36th street. the small one just behind the shop.

I've ridden a few R1's, I thought they only turned 11,500rpms......Either way, my gixxer only hit 135mph in 3rd gear at 14,500rpms...The R1 is pretty comparable for speeds..

Yea the newer 04 R1's redline at 13,750 rpms. I'm like you, my 00 929 would hit 135 at redline in 3rd. It redlines at 12,500 though. I've really never ran it to redline in 1st, other than doing a wheelie, and who can look at the speedo doing a wheelie redlined in 1st :whoa: . I may go and test it tonight since the weather is nice. God knows I better go out in the country cause I'm sure town folk won't appreciate 12,500 rpm in first with a D&D exhaust. :jesterlaugh::bolt:

why the hell do those bikes have such a long first gear? 100 in first seems kinda weird. you would think the gears would get longer as you progressed through them. i personally have never been on one of those kinda bikes much less know much of anything about them, but they are fast.
