BALLSDEEPRACING Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 First do I need to weld my crank if I plan on running 18cc domes in my cool head? and second has anyone ever rifled there carbs, and if so how did it work any diff. Thanks again Quote
banshee76179 Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Yes U need to weld the crank and sorry don't know about the rifle though. Quote
Ducman Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I started a thread about rifleing carbs a long time ago (click here for thread) I think your money is better spent just boring carbs or geting new ones. Theoretically rifeling just makes better atomization on the air fuel mixture but I would think it would actually hurt air flow. Creating a vortex in the airflow slows the flow along the axis of the vortex and creats velocity 90 deg to the axis (circular flow). I wouldn't do it. Quote
BALLSDEEPRACING Posted December 15, 2004 Author Report Posted December 15, 2004 What would be the cutoff as far as dome size w/out having to weld the crank? I thought rifling actually increased airflow, it does in a bbc Quote
H250RHATER Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 if you get ur carbs flowed you'll get a better air and fuel supply to the motor Quote
BALLSDEEPRACING Posted December 15, 2004 Author Report Posted December 15, 2004 This might be a dumb question but what would be the worst case scenario if I didnt weld my crank Quote
Ducman Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 This might be a dumb question but what would be the worst case scenario if I didnt weld my crank 293576 Welding your crank is like cheap insurance. Crank separation/twist can cause a very spendy top and bottom end rebuild. Some cranks go sooner than others with less abuse, even on a bone stock motor, so its hard to predict exactly how much it can take. I think most guys will run up to a 20cc dome on the stock crank with the plan of getting the crank trued and welded on the next rebuild a couple years down the line or when they get some porting done. I wouldn't go 19cc on stock crank for very long, 20cc is probably pushing it. Quote
BALLSDEEPRACING Posted December 15, 2004 Author Report Posted December 15, 2004 Well I guess my next question would be how hard is it to weld the crank. Is it something I can due or should I have it done, and how much? Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 whats refiling the carbs? Quote
fixitrod Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 whats refiling the carbs? 293712 If you've ever looked at the swirls in the barrel of a rifle you'll know what it is. They cut the swirls into the bore of the carbs. Quote
. Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 (edited) I ran 18's in my stock piston engine and it tore the top end apart. Had the thing for 2 years without a drop in compression and put those domes in and 6 months later the compression started dropping. My crank is still in spec and I'm running another topend with it, but after this ones seen its day its crank time. Edited December 19, 2004 by . Quote
pimpeinkc Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 i don't know much about the crank, but i do know if you go below the 20cc domes you better get you some race fuel or you will melt your pistons. Quote
BALLSDEEPRACING Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 I already run fuel, but I ordered 20cc domes for the season and during the off season ill have the crank welded. thanks for the help I appreciate it Quote
