BrianEb Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Besides the Eric Gorr's videos, is there any site dedicated with pictures on how to do a top end rebuild on a Banshee? I have a 2003 Shee just wondering when I'm going to have to do a rebuild on her. I guess if you race it you would want to rebuild as often as you could. Quote
white trash Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I dont know of any sites that have a "how to". Do a compression check 1st though that will tell you if its time or not Quote

Nutz Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Maybe invest in a clymers manual. It helps for all repairs, also Meats website very helpfull also....... Quote
. Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 top end rebuild: Pull plastic, pipes, gas tank, carbs, coolant hoses. unbolt the head from the #10-#1 in that order, unbolt the cylinders and usually you'll need a rubber mallet to break them loose and pull them off put rags in bottom end so stuff doesnt fall in, pull the circlips, pull the pins, pull the pistons off. Take the cylinders to a machine shop and see what they need to be bored out to 64 mm is stock, order the top end kit (150 bucks including wrist pin to your door from a few places), and then take the kit and the cylinders to the machinist to bore them to the pistons themselves. Install new pistons (facing the right way), install new pins, bearings, circlips, put cylinders on, torque them to 20 lbs in 3 increments (10,15,20), put the head on and torque bolts from 1-10 in order in same increments to 20 lbs and install all the rest of the stuff) Then you get to learn about heat cycles and breaking it in It's pretty simple, and not including the machine shop time and ordering and such it can be done in an hour or two. I've actually done it in a half hour, its always nice to have a backup set of cylinders. Quote
fixitrod Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Don't forget to check your ring gap. I think that's the number 1 thing forgotten about on a top end rebuild. Quote
. Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 yeah, I was gonna mention that, but out of the 5 top end kits I've had for my shees and from my buddies shee, not to mention every other piston set i've gotten from wiseco, they've all been within spec. Quote
boonman Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 they've all been within spec. 294355[/snapback] There's a first time for everything.... J/k Myself as well have never had a problem, but there is always that one time, and then..... Quote
