MudDuck Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I have been shoipping around for a new set of CPI's etc. But my buddy had a set of used FMF's Gold series for 150.00 that seem too good not to replace my stock pipes with. I'm still gonna get some CPI's but how do these Gold series perform? I do mostly trail riding with the occasional drag race. I have them installed but been to busy to ride it yet. Quote

This thing comes alive when it gets on the pipe. Its alot faster now and i can finally beat my buddies 04. He use to beat me by 2-3 bike lenghts but now i pull ahead of him. I checked the plugs and its a little on the rich side. I have most of those mods done except for reeds and my gearing is already a 14/46. Overall i'm very happy with the pipes. Quote

sredish Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Try a 15/41 gear. You'll like it a lot better. 291963[/snapback] Word on that. If your beating him now, swap your gearing to a 15/41 and you'll be tearin him up. First time I tried that gearing, I've never geared back down to a 14 front. I was switching from a 15/40 to 15/42 before my portwork. I'm getting ready to move to a 16 front. Quote
Ultimateduner Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 150.00 for the gold series FMFs?????!!!!! Damn I got mine for only 80 then again they weren't in the best shape. I loved them to the end. Quote
sredish Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 If they're in really good shape, $150 is a steal. If they're in decent shape, then it's still a good deal. I sold my 1.5 year old set of Fatties in near perfect shape, a tad bit of discoloring (not bluing, just chrome dulling) at the cylinder port area, but otherwise great shape for.... I thnk $250, can't remember. If I was to buy another set, I'd pay that in a minute for a good set. Quote
richybanshee Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 New FMF Fatties $450 aprox. Used FMF Fatties $150 aprox. Total Saved $300 aprox. I say Go for it. It is a big improvement over stock. Better Bottom, Mid and Top end over stock. I used to run FMF Gnarlys, at sea level, 310 main jet, K&N filter, no airbox lid, 15/41 gearing, timing advanced +3 degrees. Over all performance was improved a lot. I heard CPI pipes are good for top end power and that they are better for ported motors. I think this pipes, even though they are not made for low end power, may be able to performe better if we shift the power band closer to the lower rpms. How, well adding more compression and advancing a little the timming. Any one thinks this may work in a stock shee? Quote
MudDuck Posted December 16, 2004 Author Report Posted December 16, 2004 The pipes are in pretty good shape with slight discoloring and overall look very good. The power increase was like night and day. The stock pipes without baffles sucked ass. My bike hits the pipe hard and tries to rip your arms out in the power band when before it was very lazy. It wheelies very easy in 3rd without the clutch when before it wouldnt even get the wheels off the ground. I'm a happy camper now!! Quote
KRMit Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 I'm pretty happy with mine. I wouldn't think about getting another set of pipes if these weren't rusting. $150 is a steal. I repeatedly wupped a T-6 Shee last weekend, of course that could have been the rider. When I had a 13t front sprocket I could pull the front end up in 6th... then the dumbo ears would catch air and I'd catch pavement. Get the FMFs and shave your fenders. Quote
