deathmetal5150 Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Hey guys, just got back from a friend of mines house and the banshee rebuild came to a hault. We did a full rebuild with a new crank, top end, and clutch system. We got everything back together, and when he goes to kick it over, no spark. Ok fine, start checking out the wiring all looks good. We tried bump starting it, and you know what? it works. The bike will run fine once bump started, but once it shuts off, no spark whatsoever. The bike was fine before the rebuild as far as electronics (that we're aware of) but need to figure out what else it is. Im thinking a weak cdi box but not quite sure, he's spent over 500 on getting this back to where its runnable, i dont think he can go much more. Quote

Has he tried holding the throttle open while kicking it? Go over the wires again and pay close attention to the connectors. Sometimes one connecter (key switch is always a pain) seems like it's connected but is really just halfway pressed in and it will have intermittent spark/ignition issues. Just for shits, if he has the parking brake still on it try unplugging any connectors coming out of the clutch lever (there should be two small wires going to a switch under the radiator plastic. FIRST BANSHEE Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 i agree, check the thors related parts first. also make sure you didn't pinch any wires when the motor came out or went back in. make sure you have a good ground. Quote
holeshotkid Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 We just went through the exact same thing with my son's banshee. Finally traced it down to a weak cdi box. It wouldn't produce spark until about 2000 rpm. Do you have a buddy that has a banshee so you could borrow one to confirm this? Quote
deathmetal5150 Posted November 21, 2004 Author Report Posted November 21, 2004 Did some testing today and it turns out to be the flywheel. Apparently when he took it off, he used the jaw pullers instead of the regular puller, and he must have warped the flywheel. Put the stator closer and now kicks and starts up however he's worried about the flywheel. To me when it was spinning it didnt look like it was warped but someone said if it is to any extent it could damage the crank. Ive never heard that before, but what do you guys think? Quote
Bansheerider29x Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 yea same with me i have a good feeling about a weak cdi box mine was fine and after rebuilding it i had no spark i went throught hell to find out what it was and after all this work it was a damn cdi box Quote
