I ended up doin a lot of jetting with the bike. Been switching new plugs in it and going down the strip with it, then goin from there. Basically im getting a dark brown color on the plug now. Im at 165 main, 45 pilot, 3rd clip. Problem is, when i first start it up for the day, it loads up and really needs ran to get it cleaned up then after about 10 minutes, its pretty clear but will load up if you putz around on it. Problem im having now is when i get on it real hard, a couple seconds later it dies out like its not getting gas. If not, it'll all of a sudden rev up to the moon by itself and ill have to kill it. Ive cleaned this carb inside and out, fuel filter is fine, im really getting mad at this whole thing, its like Im thinkin the float is sticking or something. It doesnt bother me to tear off the carb and do whatever, but man, its frustrating with this particular carb right now.

maybe im going about this wrong, maybe i should be asking, what color does your plug look when you are running yamalube? I was reading a few articles and some say different oils produce different spark plug colors. Ive actually never had a "brown tan plug" in the banshee, so maybe i need to be looking at this question instead. The plug was wet but no where near fouled, hmm.
-
When i had the stock carbs on the mains were 280, clip in third position. The thing is though, i just installed a 4mm crank in here, so its going to change a lot, especially with the 2 into 1 carb now.

I been working on this all week after work when i get time and i have to say this is becoming quite frustrating! Since at first it was running super rich, i took the whole carb apart, the needle was a little bent, straightened it out, the needle is on the third position. I took the main down to 148 for starters. I ran it and it ran very well, however, very lean. So i bumped up to 160, ran excellent all the power you'd want, however, still lean. Ok, so went up to 182, started to really burble on the low end, like it was loading up but would clean up a good bit on top. Went down to 175, still would burble on the low end but overall good. The problem im having is the plug color, everytime i go to look at the plugs with that, i'll see a little bit of black dripping on it but when i move my finger over it, its a solid gray color. I mean, if the 175 was loading up a little bit at the bottom end, i would THINK that its a little high, so im saying 170 might be the trick. Problem is, the plug color! I still have the 48 pilot in there, im wondering if maybe i should bump that up? What i did is let the bike sit and idle for 10 minutes, take it for a spin, rev it up real good and kill it, then check the plugs. Please, someone help me!
-
Trick is though, the 170 seems awfully small to me wouldnt you think? what would you suggest me going down to as far as the main jets and pilots. i dont want to go TOO far with it, maybe a couple steps or so.
-
I bought the carb and put it on without changing the jets because the guy said he used the same pipes as i did with it. Anyhow.. I pulled it apart the main jet is 170, the pilot is 48. As far as the needle clip, ive never done a needle clip, but there's no way to get that thing out of there, it has a star on it and says 9. Thats about it, a 6mm will bolt up to the top maybe the needle simply doesnt havea "clip" on it? I took the plugs out, and they're totally black, soaked! They were brand new plugs, took less than 5 minutes to foul them out. I've never fouled a plug before, so its definetely not from luggin it i can tell you that, its just totally rich. What would you suggest? I live outside of pittsburgh in pa, so to give you an idea on elevation. The bike just runs flat, and wont rev high at all unless you hold it totally wide open then you get a hint of high revving (acts as if its fouled so to speak even when a fresh plug is in), but it shouldnt be that way, no sputtering, just acts like its dead. The pipes im running at the fmf fatties, i have the keihin carb, trinity 2 into 1 setup, reed spacers, carbon fiber reeds, 4mm crank, porting, k&n filter. Let me know

Hey guys, just did some mods to my banshee and need a little bit of help. I just put in a 4mm crank, and i put on a keihin 2 into 1 carb. I believe its a 34mm. At any rate. These are going through FMF Fatty Pipes. I let the bike break in and everything, and when im riding on it, the low end and midrange just feels boggy to me, like it takes too long to rev up. When I set it in neutral and give it a rev, you have to go way further on it to get it to rev high than i used to. Im not sure of the size of the jets in the carb, but im thinking maybe the needle clip needs moved up? It just doesnt feel like its running like it should and im thinking its just the carb setup because when i had the stock carbs on it, it ran perfect. Let me know what you think.

yeah but the problem is finding a reputable shop, there's a lot of guys who make em too tight, who dont do em right, etc etc. do your research and all should be well with honing.

why is there oil in the pipe?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Well here's basically what it is. My buddy's motor was rebuilt from the crank up like i said. Once the bike was put back together, it didnt want to start. What he had to do was coast it down to kick it over, and it took a couple times, then it turned over. He drove it a few times around the block, and to ME, it sounded like it was running on one cylinder. He then brought it back to the garage, tried kicking it over, and nothing at all. I am pretty sure each side was getting spark at the time, however, i believe it was intermittten spark. Changed the coils, cdi, stator, you name it, and he eventually gave up. Stator and flywheel was also changed and pro installed so it was definetely ok. I believe the wiring harness wasnt grounded right. At any rate, only the left side was filled with some oil at the pipe. Im assuming maybe since the bike was being kicked over like that, maybe if it wasnt firing on the left side, it would just spray and fill up the cylinder enough to come out of the pipe right there. -

i wonder if maybe the left side just wasnt firing?? im just hoping its nothing serious. -

yeah thats just the thing, he had it rebuilt from the crank up, and it was running fine for a couple minutes then the electrical problems began, it came down to his wiring harness i believe, however he gave up on that, and probably kicked it over 300 times after that. so im wondering if maybe it just sucked up through the pipe on the left side? it definetely wasnt coming from the right side but when the pipe on the left was taken off, oil just went everywhere it was laying down in the bottom of the pipe. (i'd say about a cup full) -
my buddy was taking off his pipes today and when he took off the left side of the pipe, there was some oil coming out of the pipe? im not sure why it would be doing that. i do k now that he was trying to kickstart it for about 10 minutes, he was having some trouble with his coil but still? engine was just recently upgraded, any ideas?

cheetah cubs for flattrack racing?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Hi there, thanks for the responses. Yeah im definetely up for options, it doesnt have the be the cheetah cubs they just looked like quite a good setup. Jim if you got time to talk about it that sounds great with me! Anything thats reliable is definetely an option for me. thanks a lot -
heys guys im just starting to get into flat track racing, and i was thinking about going ahead and getting a set of cheetah cubs go along with it. Do you think these cylinders would be the trick for racing flat track? Rather, would they be great or? Right now i have a good port job on the motor but i want to get real serious with doing this so i would love to hear some opinions. i may occasionally take the bike out for a little cruise now and then off the track so again would just like to hear your opinions. As far as my setup right now, its fmf pipes, reed spacers, lowering kit, plus 4 lonestar axle, hoosiers, etc. My main concern is reliability, i'd probably just go with the stock bore setup for the cheetahs, that should be good enough. Anyways would love to hear more about it.

im gonna move this over to here. i would like to get a 2 into 1 setup for my banshee. pipe, carb, and the thumb throttle cable. if you have any, or all, let me know what you have and asking price. prefer to be in excellent plus shape. thanks by the way, ill buy outright, or if you need any banshee parts and would wanna trade, thats fine too, i have a ton of parts.

banshee cheetah cub cylinders?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Sounds great. So far, the only thing im not sure about yet is the ring wear and fuel economy. How often are the rings going to have to be changed? I noticed a lot of folks going by "gallons", so wondering how much difference the fuel economy is going to be from stock cylinders? -

banshee cheetah cub cylinders?

i know that they have different port options, i was wondering if one were to go with the bottom line cub setup without all that stage porting, if it would be ok then? -
banshee cheetah cub cylinders?
deathmetal5150 replied to deathmetal5150's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
ive heard a couple people say that they're ok for trail riding and racing around on, however i heard a few people say you just want these for strictly racing. why is that? interested in hearing about it. wonder if its because maybe they will overheat easily or just wheelspin is pretty rough? -
hi everyone interested in finding out more about these cylinders. im told you can bolt these on and have some pretty good results. however, wondering about the reliability? i see that they have nikasil involved, can you give me a run down on this? basically im interested in getting them for aggressive play riding, but want reliability to be top priority. how often do you have to change pistons, also how about the rings ? any info is appreciated.

Got some questions in regards to jetting. I threw on a set of fmf powercore 2's the other day, gnarly headpipes.. The bike was sputtering and backfiring, so since i havent really jetting anything before, i took it down to a shop. They said they jetted it and such, i took it home. It ran for abotu 2 minutes and died right out. Wouldnt kick back over unless i put the choke back on. Put the choke back on started up on two kicks, took the choke off, minute later burbled and died out, seemed like it was starving for gas. Changed the plugs just for the hell of it, they were black as hell, and by the way, this bike NEVER fouled a plug with stock pipes. Put them in, started it up, ran for about 2 minutes, died right out, absolutely refused to turn over. Waited 5 mins, put the choke on, again...started up. I put it in the garage and am really upset right now. Ive done everything on the bike except jetting, so i dont think im going to take that bike back down there if they cant get it right the first time. I think personally its leaned out too far, what do you guys think?

i dont think it was tranny oil, it woulda had a different color to it. this was straight oil mix i believe
