Well I finally purchased a set of pipes off of ebay after looking for a good month or so. I picked up a set of new SST's for $285 plus s/h. I didn't think that was too bad. I had originally intended to get Fatty's or Pro-Circuits, but couldn't find many good sets on ebay. My question is to anyone who may have the SST's where I should start jetting at. I have a stock bike now. My specs are K&N with lid (no snorkel) & 3100' elevation. I think I'll start at a 280 main jet and see what happens. From what I've read most people change their pilot to 27.5 or 30. I may try with stock pilots and see what happens first. Also, if I took my lid off, would you want to go up another main size or two? I can't wait to ride it with pipes! Everyone says its night/day difference. I've noticed not too many people run the SST's, so I was wondering if anyone also had any thoughts about them.

Sounds like you are right on track. 280 with a 27.5 pilot would be a good place to start at that elevation.

Yeah, I think I'll start there and see what happens. Does running without the lid going to make that much difference in performance/jetting?

it could be the difference in two main sizes, and probably at least 1 size

2 main sizes and a decent performance boost over running with the lid on, you have to clean the air filter way more often though.

I recently put on SSTs and I'm impressed with them. The thing grunts more on the bottom than it did before and when it hits the pipe it pulls awesome. I have a stock pilot, 2 turns on the air screw, third clip pos on needle and 310 mains with no lid at sea level. At 3100ft I'd start with a 300 main with no lid, better to start rich than lean and then check the plugs. Unless you're riding in a really dusty or wet area taking off the airbox lid is a real benefit. Let me know what you come up with, like you say, not many people running SSTs and I'm curious to know

I'm getting real anxious to see how the pipes "wake up" the bike. I've had my shee for three years and it's always been stock. I'm nervous though if I don't get it jetted properly I'll have some issues. I know everybody says do a plug check, but I've heard to start the jetting anywhere from 260-310. I'd like to do it right the first time so I don't have to take the damn carbs back apart. I'll post info about the pipes whenever I get it going.

yep that's why I went to a single carb setup jetting in a snap!!!!

And if it works out the very first time U r a lucky son-of-a-gun... good luck though...

I'd start w/ a 280 main at that elevation. You'll be too rich w/ anything larger. I'd also stay w/ the stock pilot. RAise the needles to the 4th clip from the blunt end...You'll get great gains w/o the lid. You can even mod the lid by cutting the last 1.5" off the end right behing the clips so you still have all four...Works really great..takes about 2 seconds to do the mod w/ a skill saw.... :o Just don't cut your fingers.. :D

Yeah, that's what I think I'm gonna do. I put the pipes on with 280 jets and left the pilots stock about two turns out. I kicked it twice and it fired up and idled allright. Now I need to run it wide open and do a plug check with and without the lid to see whether or not it's too lean/rich. Thanks alot for the info. The pipes sound 100 times better than stock, and look 1000 times better too.
