winemaker Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Now before someone tells me to do a search on this stuff, I already have. I can not find anything on chain comparisons. My question is in buyin an aftermarket chain to replace the stock one, which type is the best to purchase? 1. X-Ring 2. O-Ring 3. Non O-ring Any recomendations on manufacturers??? Also I imagine that purchasing new sprockets at the same time would be a good idea. Thanks... Quote
PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 DID makes a good X-Ring ATV chain. That's what I use. Yes it's a good idea to replace the sprockets with the new chain otherwise you'll get increased wear on the new chain. Sprockets are pretty cheap and changing the chain is a great time to try something new. Make sure you order enough links, I recommend ordering extra and cutting it down. Too short is worthless and it'll take time if you have to return it. Quote
Justintoxicated Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 X-ring is O-ring it just seals in the greae better, Non-Orings wear out the fastest. Unless you want to change your chain every time you race get an O-ring or X-ring, or at least bu a case saver. Quote
hamuel Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 i second the vote for did x ring chain they almost never strech and look great in gold. Quote
SDD Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 Here is your 4th vote for the DID X-ring ATV chain. Justin has one on his bike as well. You can't beat this chain. The initial stretch from pushing the grease out from between the pins is about all you'll get as far a stretch is concerned. Any other slack comes from worn sprockets. Quote

PUSH THE THROTTLE Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 You might also want to invest in a chain press tool, they are only about $15 but can save some serious time and swearing when you go to press the side plates on to install the clip. I pressed mine last time and installed the clip by hand just slid right on. Here's the link to the one I have but for some reason it's $10 dollars more than what I paid. Shop around and you should be able to locate one cheaper. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_cata...leafCatId=41805 Quote
BdBanshee Posted October 26, 2004 Report Posted October 26, 2004 The x-ring is the same as an o-ring, but causes less friction. Imagine cutting a o-ring crossways, it's an O, cut an x-ring crossways and it's an X. Basically the x-ring is just an improvement over the o-ring. Quote
