My bro just picked up a new Ski Doo Summit X 1000.

Specs:

1,000cc Twin

16"x162" / 2.25" Lugged Track

Electronic Reverse - "RER reverses the direction of the snowmobile by electronically reversing the direction of the engine. It retards engine ignition so that the idle slows to the point that the direction of crankshaft rotation reverses.

Steel braided brake lines

40" - 42.5" wide (adjustable)

Aluminum suspension

Loads more shiz I don't even comprehend. This thing is so freaking insane!!

So now, someone just needs to figure out how we can make the banshe engine go in reverse, then we the shee would be back on top on the sand pile again since that's all it's lacking.

Awesome sled. We don't get enough snow around here , so we just go to the lodges and rent them, beats having them sit 90% of the time..

We'd have to find a way to completely disengage the kick starter to do that, but it would be possible.

I can't imagine how much that engine costs either. I have a machinist buddy that owns his own shop, and does alot better that I do. He was making snow mobile heads at one point, and he had his sitting in the shop...when I noticed his engine was on a pallete and it was purple and chrome etc...clearly not the stock engine. He told me he bought a new 700cc twin Rotax. Something like $3500-$4000 when he was done.

I once owned a 1973 350 Bultaco Alpina 2 stroke single mellow tuned enduro bike. Several times when coasting backwards I would let out clutch to stop and this would start the motor running backwards. I think this happened because the timing was very close to top dead center and once the motor was turning over backwards it would start up and run. I have never heard of this happening on a modern high performance 2 stroke. The kick starter was never a factor because it happened while coasting. :shootself:

yank that twin outta there and put it in the shee!

They actually make cases to fit the Rotax 800 cylinders in a Banshee, I don't see why that motor wouldn't be next.

mattoon machine....i just had a set setting in my living room. i but a 16 mil crank and a set of seadoo 941 cylinders......which is the same size motor that is in the sled........whole motor got shipped to K & T. but i don't understand the point of spending 3 grand on cases.....i think the crank was almost 3 grand to. I sold him the cylinders for $500 after I resleeved'em.

Just machine your side cover so you can kick the bike the other way. Most of my bikes have this done to them. One of my banshees didn't like that too much though and the kicker moves a bit when I rev it. Its no revelation that a two stroke engine will run in either direction of rotation. Oh yeah, and the description of how the Bombardier system works isn't exactly right. The engine actually stops for a second before it starts running backwards.

Addditionally, since everyone seems to be interested, I have Catia files and G&M code for a set of cases similair toa the Mattoon cases. I have one engine built of this model. The downside is that it uses Banshee internals for the tranny, and its heavy, as machining the thickness equivalent of sheet metal isn't easy or quiet. If anyone is interested in one of these things and has a VMC to use, I'd sell them cheap.
