03 ORANGE SHEE Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 i stripped out one of the cylinder studs, and tried jb weld in there but it blew another cool head gasket, do you know the next size up from the stock thread size?? i dont want to go too big, even the next tread size where i can re-tap ,thanks, nate Quote
BenBB Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I'm almost certain the stock stud is 8mm, and you should be able to helicoil it...but I haven't done a helicoil on a cylinder so I'm not 100% certain that it won't cut into a water jacket or something when you drill/tap it. I don't think it will, and a helicoil is supposedly stronger than just drilling and tapping it to a larger size (and you don't run the risk of having to hog out the holes in the head for the larger stud size). Good luck. Quote
bkabina Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I have done alot of cylinders.I use a time-sert if you can find them. The size you need is 8X1.25.If you take your time I have never had a problem. Quote
SyNtAxx Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Hello, I just heli-coiled my cylinder this past winter: M8x1.25 is the helicoil part number. Worked liek a charm... Just take your time...and make sure you dont get any metal in your crank case Nick Quote
racer Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 take your time...and make sure you dont get any metal in your crank case thats the most important thing to do. cause splitting a case for something that would piss me off Quote
03 ORANGE SHEE Posted October 12, 2004 Author Report Posted October 12, 2004 thank you all for your time, it was the 8x1.25, i removed the left cylinder and took it to a shop, i will cost about $25 to fix Quote
