Well after a couple of months of having a lot of fun on the quads we have run into a problem. We went to ride last weekend and there was an "arrestor check". Guess what--my sons Banshee is missing arrestors. He has T-5 pipes, do we have to put Toomey spark arrestors on or is there something else we can do??? Ideas on cost?? We had no idea the arrestors were missing, when we bought the quad we were assured there was. Oh well, we have learned alot over the last 7 months!! Thanks in advance for advice and help!!! Nuts

Not all silencers come with spark arresters.

im Not familiar with the toomey exhaust, someone else will probably fill you in. But if you need or want you can buy aftermarket arrestors that clamp onto the ends of the silencers. then you can put them on for areas that require them, and remove them in others.

for more $$ you could purchase different silencers with them built in.

Or possibly even mod the ones you have and put some screens inside.

Toomey has a really weird silencer/arrestor setup. Basically its a big can that sits under the grab bar. Both exhausts feed into the can and then a single outlet expels the exhaust gasses. Either that or toomey has bolt on arrestors similar to those made by other aftermarket companies and called 'Sparkys'. I believe a company called Cobra makes them also, most bike shops carry can order em. There are 2 different kinds, round and oval, for whatever shape your silencers are. I would discourage tampering with your silencers to add the screens. I know that here in California the fine for tampering with the exhaust and trying to add screens is about 3x as much as the fine for riding without spark arrestors. Anyway, here's a link to toomey's product page: Toomey Racing

Really? Where can I find more information on this?

There are 2 options from Toomey... The 2: Hush kit with spark Arrestor which is an awesome setup. Kills the high pitched "ping" from the T5's and passes the arrestor test.

Second option is clamp on "Sparky's" which look like crap, cost almost as much as the 2:1 and immediately get destroyed if you stand it up on the grab bar.

Option 3 is to take the silencer apart and put a cotter pin across the bore. This will prevent the "stick" test from working. It will appear that there is a screen in there. The problem is that T5's can be looked into pretty easy and they can see if you have a cotter pin in there

I don't have T5s, but two of my friends do. They have individual spark arrestors for each silencer, but they attach with snap rings. The arrestor has a sort of flange on it, you butt it up to the end of the silencer, and then force the snap ring onto it. The ring is hard to get in there, but once its in, its secure. I personally dont like the way that they hang off the back of the silencer, but it looks and sounds better than the 2 into one "hush" kit. I think that they got their full systems through our local stealership. Hope this helps.
