Thanks to both of you for your replies. I guess we will load her up and check her out. I do have it insured...hopefully we won't have to go that way. Thank goodness it is a "spare" and we have three others and a dirt bike to ride. We just sold our other Banshee...now I regret it. Oh well. Happy riding...hopefully it won't be blazing this weekend and we can have some fun. Nuts

It's been awhile since I have been here--no break downs and lots of riding!!! Unfortunately this came to an end on Mother's Day. My son decided to ride his "old" Banshee for grins and giggles (he has been riding dirt bikes lately). Anyhow, he was flying down a trail and hit a whoop and went flying over the handle bars and the Banshee went rolling. Lucky for him all he ended up with is a separated shoulder and some scrapes. Now to my question--how do you tell for the frame is bent? We think ours is--it appears to be tilting to the side and we cannot get the plastic back on, handles bars are pushed back about 1/2 inch. Should we buy a new frame?? Can it be straightened?? Steering stem is not broke. Everything else is good on the bike (still runs); it is just sort of "crooked". Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Nuts

Well after a couple of months of having a lot of fun on the quads we have run into a problem. We went to ride last weekend and there was an "arrestor check". Guess what--my sons Banshee is missing arrestors. He has T-5 pipes, do we have to put Toomey spark arrestors on or is there something else we can do??? Ideas on cost?? We had no idea the arrestors were missing, when we bought the quad we were assured there was. Oh well, we have learned alot over the last 7 months!! Thanks in advance for advice and help!!! Nuts

Well a lot of water has passed under our bridge since the last visible post. The Shee is running like a champ!!! Broke in nice and easy and now it is a screaming machine--guess that is why it is a Banshee!!! Bad news is--son broke his leg on one of the break in rides however his dad has had a blast keeping it "warmed up" for him. He is going to be out another 4 weeks at least!!! Other bad news--our son-in-law blew the top end of the other Banshee this weekend. Should be easier this time around--dad got a new motorcycle/quad jack stand and new tools and we have BHQ to help us along. Hope all is going well with everyone out there. Thanks for all your help in the past.

Thanks for everyones help...I am sure I will be back when we start the break in period. nutty...

OK got the case split so we can put in the new crank...found wood chips in there!!! Wiped it out and lo and hold there are scratches visible...is this normal or does this mean more $$$ http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286725993

Got the new pistons(kit)...took all into machine shop. Took the crank in for inspection--was a great deal of play and heat discoloration--we bought a new one (OUCH). So, in the process of taking the bottom apart ran into a problem...cant get the clutch boss off. While trying to remove the nut broke one of the "arms" off. How the heck do you get this thing off??? Impact wrench??? Voodoo??? There goes the ride on Monday...maybe we will get to ride next weekend.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286741077 Finally was able to take some time and finish getting it apart...pictures are above. We do have one concern about the crank--there is discoloration on the arm--is this normal?? I sure hope the answer is yes--I have looked at the prices!!! Since we have tomorrow off we are headed to Yucaipa to get it measured and get the rebuild kit (Wiseco), then we will bring it back home and drop off at our local machine shop. All in all it is going to be around $225 so I am not going to complain. Hope to have everything back Sunday and put back together for a nice little ride on Monday. I know it is a big hope...but I am having withdrawals...Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend...

Wiseco Piston Kits $150 NIK's Pro-X Piston Kit w/ Gaskets $160 OK which one is recommended around here??? Plus taking it down for the shop work to be done...my son better find a job!!!

Yikes...yep time to ask the boss for a raise!!! We live in a little community in the Mojove Desert Rosamond. Help is appreciated. Now to start the research for the rebuild. Thanks. nutty

OK the link should work now...So how much are we looking at to have the top end done...and how hard is it--possibly do it ourselves??? No experieince with little engines...only big ones...such as jet engins on F-16, F-117 or an F-111 aircraft. Todds Quad

Yes, we got the book. I did not like the sound of having to have the whole top end redone...maybe hubby and I will be riding and leave the squirt at home.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286796873 Paste the above into your browser and you should be able to see the cracked boots. We have since removed the head...everything looks good in there, nice and shiny. As soon as all the parts show up and we get them in we will do another compression check. Hopefully all will be good. Hope to have it running by next weekend...gonna be a real bummer if we can't ride on a 5 day weekend!!!

Holyman--the bottle has been discarded. I have pictures of the holes in the intake boots--not little ones (I just have to figure out how to get them here to be viewed). We did a compression test and we only got 60 (right) and 50 (left) on the other. Not sure how true that reading is since we have other problems we are dealing with. Getting ready to remove the heads and check the gaskets for what they think might be an overheating problem (bike was shooting/steaming out the bottom end last hard ride we did). The bike is a 2000, $3400 and we live in S Cal (desert--nothing pretty). I called for prices on the boots and cross over tubes and it is going to be about $60...does that seem right??? Thanks for everyones help--I love this place.
-
OK will get the compression test done-hope to have the numbers by tomorrow evening....was taking it apart tonight and found big cracks(actually see inside the tubes) on the rubber piece where the boost bottle is connected to the intake manifold. I know that will need to be replaced--what problems would a malfuntioning boost bottle cause??? I think its time to ask the boss for a raise!!!thanks--nuts
