Will cutting the front fender make that big of a difference as far as wind resistence and speed is concerned? Quote

Will cutting the front fender make that big of a difference as far as wind resistence and speed is concerned? It won't make that much of a difference. It just looks a helluva lot better IMO. Get on a diet. That'll save some weight. haha. New rims, handlebars, swingarm, a arms, etc. Can change a lot of stuff to aftermarket and it'll weigh a lot less than stock. Good luck. Quote
decon Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 eliminating the airbox with a 2 in 1 air filter from toomey that goes directly on the carbs? that should probly save some weight. Quote
racer Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 If I take the parking brake off, about how much wieght will I save? 7 lbs. Quote
. Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 seriously, depending on what shape you are in, going on a diet will probably be one of the biggest weight savings you can have. Besides that the best way to save weight is unsprung weight. The parts that are actually moving, such as from the shocks, a-arms, swingarm, axle, hubs, tires, rims, etc. There's tons of places to save weight, just replace everything that is heavy metal with aluminum and you'll be off to a good start, not to mention have a blinging shee...you could even go titanium with a lot of the parts. Cotton eyed Joe Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 So far I've replaced as much as I can with aluminum. I ditched the stock front bumper, took off the e-brake, and shaved un needed tabs. I used to have all of it in a bag to weigh as I added shit. Just replacing the steel pegs with my aluminum pegs took about 5lbs or so off. If you know how much steel you are replacing with aluminum, the weight difference is 1/3, but only 1/2 as strong. You double up on the size to get your strength back and you are still 2/3 the weight of steel at comparible strength. Chromoly is the same weight per volume as mild, but its twice as strong so you can use 1/2 as much. Hope that kind of gives you an idea of what, and where you can save on weight. Quote
Titanium Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 Buying Carbon Fiber parts from me I'm slowing working on replacing metal parts on mine with CF... CF = 1/8 the weight of carbon steel, and 3x as strong per unit So an 8lb peice of steel on the shee would weigh 1lb and be much, much stronger Quote
williamjernigan Posted September 24, 2004 Author Report Posted September 24, 2004 I think that Im in pretty good shape. I weigh 164 and I'm 5'11" . Thanks for the tips though. Quote
