natino Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 I just purchased an 87 banshee about five months ago. In the winter when i was driving. After it warms up it wont start with out some gas down the cylinder,than it would fire right up but it wouldent idle i never messed around with the carbs because i didnt want to screw things up. But after i was done riding it i parked it in the shop and the next day i went to start it it wouldent so i took thee plug out and kicked it a few times and there was no spark so i tested my coil and bought a new one it hasent been running yet and a new cdi is 700bux what should i do Quote
ledofthezep Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 1. Get a clymers manual...it's worth it--TRUST ME. 2. Check your compression. 3. Torrs still connected? Tried disconnecting it? 4. If no torrs or you've already tried disconnecting it, I'd pull the carbs, clean them. Quote
locogato11283 Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 check your stator. if a wire has been cut it can make contact and then come apart. i rode mine like this for a day and didnt even realize it. i was riding and it would shut down. then id stop and it would start right back up. couldnt figure out what the fuckin deal was. come to find out one of the wires on the stator had come apart. id check it over good if i were you. Good suggestion. Also...check the connector where the stator connects to the cdi...make sure none of the pins got pushed aside & aren't going in the connector right. I only say this due to my own personal experience. After I rebuilt my shee I had '0 spark'---well when I'd reconnected the stator & coil plug, one of the prongs got bent sideways & wasn't in its connecting slot. Had a fun time figuring that one out.
