lokar Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 Something has crapped out on my bike. Basically, where it stands now, when I fire up the bike, it only runs on the left cylinder. You can run it for about 1 minute and the left pipe is warm and the right is cold. I did a compression check and both sides are at exactly 111psi. I changed the cdi, I changed the coil, but nothing has gotten better. The bike is a 98 with fmf fatty pipes, fmf reeds, dynojet kit, dynafs ign., and an msd coil. The bike started having this problem before I installed the dynafs, the dynojet, and the msd. I wanted to make these mods anyway, and thought they might be causing the problem. Guess not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (i would like to ride tomorrow ) Thanks Quote
orion6781 Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 Change the plugs around and see if the left runs still or its the right. if thats the case change your plugs, if not fixed maybe bad plug wire. Quote
lokar Posted August 15, 2004 Author Report Posted August 15, 2004 I have tried swapping the plugs, the wires, etc. nothing has made a difference. I just tried dissconnecting the tors, but I am not sure if it fixed the prob. The left pipe still gets warm after a min and the right is cold, but it looks like they are both smoking now, so.... I was thinking about it, and only the left carb gets choked, so maybe that is normal for the first few minutes? Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 well run her for a good 5 minutes and see how she is, but for ur prob, are you getting spark on both sides? do a spark check, and i say take the carbs apart and give em a full cleanin, maybe ur main is plugged Quote
harley_sr Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 I have a prob. close to the same as yours. I have no power in my right cylinder. I put new carbs on, new plugs, did a comp check, its a little off, but my right cylinder seems to be off. I am going to do a new top end, and rewire the bike. Quote
United Pot Smoker Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 did you n'sync your carbs? that could cause some problems. get a timming light and see whats going on. are your float bowls backwars? they both have the same jets and needle clip position? Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 check for a clogged pilot jet Quote
lokar Posted August 15, 2004 Author Report Posted August 15, 2004 Okay, with the 5 plugs undone (tors) and after letting the bike warm up a little it seems as if it is running on both sides now. Now my problem is that the bike wont idle and it is very "dead" off-idle. What I mean is it boggs really bad when you give it some throttle. Once you get past the initial bog it seems fine. Like I said before, I just installed a dynojet kit and I followed all of thier directions. My thought is that it is the pilot jet adjustment. dynojet said to screw it all the way in and then back it out 2.5 turns. I havent had a chance to mess with the screws but I think it might just be too fat??? BTW, how do you sync the carbs, and does installing the jet kit constitute me having to do so? (because the bike ran fine before) Quote
excalibur Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 now we go to school. can you say throttle override switch. they are in the carbs and they need to go bye bye. Quote
