BluBanshee98 Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Hope some of you will be able to help me out with my question. I've got a 98 banshee that I would like to convert to alcohol for duning. My fiance and I are about to buy another shee which we will use both bikes for dunes and desert riding. I'm running stock carbs, a cool head w/19cc domes, its ported and polished, lightened flywheel, and advanced timing. K&T out of Utah did all the work. But to get to the main question, can I convert the carbs from pump gas to alcohol depending on what terrain i'll be riding? I hear that with alcohol you have to jet the carbs up so much you burn alot more alot faster. Everyones input is greatly appreciated. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 From my understanding you need totaly diffrent carbs designed to work specificaly with alcohol and you need a fuel cell..you can't just fill up a stock tank with alcohol as it will evaporate way too fast. I think a fuel pump is required to keep pressure in the lines and stop vapor lock from happening...Not shure. I was going to convert my shee to alcohol years ago but the cost disuaded me. Quote
a&sbanshee Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 alcohol burns 2 times faster than race gas and is very tempermental if u are just gonna straight dune this bike then i would keep it on gas but if u are gonna sand drag or hillshoot this bike the alky wouldnt be a bad idea cuz when i went from race gas to alky on my drag bike i picked up 2tenths in the 1/8mile once i got the jetting real close.and also if u go to alky i would reccomend gettin bigger carbs like a set of 35.5pj's or a set of 35 pwk's both of the carbs work really well and thats what we run on all of out bike pretty much Quote
MRMOONEY Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 you dont need a fuel cell. you dont need a pump either. get a pingle petcock flows twice as much as a stock petcock. alky wont evaporate in the stock tank. you can put the stock one on alky but get bigger carbs not worth the hassle. i ahve a set of 34mm mikuni set up on alky for sell pm if interested Quote
